Jackiesworld

Pro

Hi, this is my first debate. I want to argue that being gay is normal, and Conservatives should stop being stubborn and respect them and give them rights.

Science shows being gay is in their dna, so why would you hate them?

I'm religious, but the bible doesn't say to discriminate gays, tell me where it says that?
Balacafa

Con

If being gay was a natural process then why can't gay people have kids and why aren't other animals gay. If it is natural surely we wouldn't be the only species.

By the way, I'm paying devils advocate here.

3 points to Pro (Arguments). Reasons for voting decision: I agree with Pro but not really for the reasons given. Being homosexual is not normal. I also take offence at the statement claiming homophobia is a conservative ideal or trait. Either way though, I suppose I must side with Pro.

[*Reason for non-removal*] As no RFD is required on this debate, any RFD provided, so long as it doesn't otherwise violate the rules, is not moderated.

Sex is more than reproductive purposes -> The sexual organs do more than reproduce. Yeah, it's a means of reproducing also. Homosexuality - which *exists* in animals - is okay.

The fact that a man has penis and a woman a vagina, is proof by nature that we are compatible and made for each other. Anything different than Male and Female relations is not organic.

3 points to Pro (Arguments). Reasons for voting decision: This wasn't that much of a debate, but I'll give Jackiesworld his first debate. Good luck new blood, you're going to need it.

You might consider making this debate longer than 1 round. It's not much of a debate if you don't get a chance to respond to your opponent. 3 or more rounds is usually a good number.

Reasons for voting decision: Spelling and Grammar to Con. The reasons for this is that Pro gives a list, but instead of using commas he uses constant "and"s. Not to mention that he did not capitalize DNA with it being a proper noun. Pro gives a long list of items that make being gay not wrong, but Con tackles one of Pro's key arguments showing that if being gay was natural then why can't they procreate? Thus I have no choice, but to give Con arguments and the debate. I would have liked for sources to be used for some of the claims used here, but that's just my opinion.

Reasons for voting decision: Con doesn't actually address the resolution if you think about it. The resolution: Gay is ok. Although Pro's only argument that was relevant to the resolution was how the bible doesn't tell us to discriminate against gays, Con's argument isn't relevant, as it only disputes that being gay is not natural. That isn't the point here. Therefore, being the only one to make an argument relevant to the resolution, I vote Pro.

Reasons for voting decision: Con never disputed the claim that being gay is a part of ones dna, which would fulfill Pro's BoP that being gay is 'ok'. Con also failed to provide a source for his claim that there are no other animals that are gay besides people. Pro also failed to provide a source indicating that being gay is a part of ones dna, but con accepted and did not dispute that claim, so it is admissible. Arguments therefore go to the pro

Reasons for voting decision: Though I agree with Pro, the only argument made for the resolution is that "science shows being gay is in their dna." No sources were provided here, which would have gone very far, and no particular science was identified...genetics, biology, anatomy...Pro's grammar is flawed when using a question mark for the statement "tell me where it says that?" and this actuslly throws off the meaning of the statement, because it makes it seem like Pro is unsure of the claim they are making about the bible, with no evidence. No sources, more grammar problems than Con, and the arguments made were unsupported. Con's contention is somewhat irrelevant to the resolution, Con uses "natural" instead of "ok," but it doesn't matter, because the resolution was not clearly defined, and Pro can never respond to Con's points. Con claims we are the only gay animals, and this is false, but it isn't addressed by Pro, so it remains as the only real cohesive argument that's unchallenged. No rfd? sources con.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro just... doesn't really affirm the resolution. Being normal, part of their DNA, and a half-remembered Bible thought don't explain how "Gay is ok". Con doesn't negate the resolution, but he doesn't have to if Pro isn't affirming it.
