Pro

Gay marriage should be legalized. Government and religion should not mix. Not allowing people of the LGBT community to marry is discrimination against their sexuality. Something should not be illegal just because others don't agree with it. The LGBT community deserves the same right to marry who they love and be bound legally just like everyone else can be.

Con

Gay marriage should not be legalized by the federal government, as marriage is not a federal issue. Under the Constitution, all powers not delegated to the federal government are left to the states, or the people.[1] The issue of marriage as a federal legislative issues is not noted in the Constitution.[2] Thus, the issue of marriage must be decided by the states, not the federal government. This means the idea of federal involvement in marriage in any aspect - including definition, benefits, and recognition, - should be discarded entirely, and it should be returned to where it belongs - the states.
