First, I shall like to thank my opponent for proposing this interesting and thought provoking debate to an issue that is very important to our current society. I will defend Gay Marriage, and first I will clarify when I say Gay I mean homosexual, and will define some terms.

Homosexual: of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex.
Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com...

Sex: either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive organs and structures.
Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com...

Marriage: Marriage in the simplest sense is a union between two different persons that can be social, religious, spiritual, emotional and/or legal.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org...

Love: Noun: a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
Verb: to have love or affection for.
Source: http://dictionary.reference.com...

Legal: of or relating to law
Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com...

Adoption: To take into one's family through legal means and raise as one's own child.

For the purpose of this debate, I shall be addressing marriage in a legal sense and I shall be addressing the practicalities of marriage.

I shall start out with some basic history of marriage and same sex marriage in particular:

Marriage in many cultures has mythical origins, but was often for very practical reasons. Some of those reasons were that children had two constant parents to take care of them, that families form strong units, to reduce jealousy and strife caused by competition for men to obtain women, and so on and so forth. As society advanced and civilization formed, the purpose of marriage changed mainly to foster alliances and friendships between different families, and marriage stopped being mainly about reproducing but instead about strategy. Until around the 16th century marriage was usually created by mutual agreement, but soon it became a legal matter as well. Over time the purpose of marriage has evolved again in most societies, and although there are still other motivations to marry such as wealth and power the primary reason for persons to marry now is love and/or sexual attraction.
Primary source: http://en.wikipedia.org...

This is why gay marriage is extremely viable and fits to our modern society, because even though two homosexuals cannot have children by reproducing (I shall talk about adoption later), they are drawn together by non-practical reasons such as love. Although during the prehistoric era when survival depended on marriage and other ties and the reproduction of children by a man-woman relationship this dynamic has changed in our modern society as marriage has become more of a personal choice than a practical or strategic one. Thus one of the common arguments against Gay marriage, that two homosexuals cannot have children, no longer applies fully to modern society.

And now in today's society Gay couples can still contribute practically to society by adoption. Adoption is important because it lessens the resources that governments/charities/other have to spend on orphan children, and it gives children without parents the opportunity to be loved, cared for, and to learn basic life skills from one or two parents.

In conclusion, in the past Gay relationships were often impractical because of the social dynamics of the time which were based off of survival, but as relationships and marriages have changed over time the Gay marriage has gained practicality in the legal and social sense.

Again, my opponent has forfeited and has provided no evidence for why Gay Marriage should not be allowed, while I have provided much reasoning.

My opponent has failed to provide any counter arguments, forfeiting again and again. I have provided many arguments for gay marriage and with the burden of proof resting upon my opponent he has provided nothing except a sentence saying the resolution is his opinion. Vote con.
