My opponent will have to try and prove points to maybe lead me to believe that it is OK for gay's to marry.
I'm looking forward to this debate and even though it's a first time debate for her, I heavily urge a CON vote. Good luck, Barbara.
I think that people should be able to chose who they love and who they marry. The government should not be aloud to tell us who to fall in love with. Even if it happens to be some one of the same sex. The government already controls so much. Why let them choose who we can and cannot marry. |

Thank you Barbara for accepting this debate challenge.
So you feel that people should marry who they want, when they want? Well, due to the fact that you are Agnostic, I cannot use religion as a reference, therefore... I will note you with stating the fact that laws shouldn't pass if they are against the will of the people. The majority of people in the U.S. are against homosexual marriages so, it does not follow that we should permit same-sex marriages.
But its not like the people that are against same sex marriage are going to be affected by them getting married. Another point, doesent it say in the Declaration of Independence that all people are created equall. So we need to treat every one equally and give every one the same rights. |

5.con- Con used a legal argument concerning how our countries laws are made, that was not refuted in the same legal sense. Pro also said that the government should not be able to tell us "Who to fall in love with, and who to marry" When in fact the government has no restrictions on who we can fall in love with.
What she said about how the government shouldn't be allowed to say who we can and cannot marry, is contradictory to the point she is trying to make. The government shouldn't be able to tell us either way how marriage should work. The church should, because it's a religious institution. However, the government could still provide benefits for homosexual couples if need be.

If the majority of Americans were for slavery would you support that too?

Her first one"
I find that comment insulting, just because someone has their first debate, doesn't mean that they are going to lose. In fact, I'd say that you are currently losing, Mr.Hunton. The Government has no right to tell you what to do with your life.
Wise up, Kiddo.

"Do you like this debate?" No way. -1.
Personally, I believe marriage is essentially a religious institution and the state should have no say in it.
Furthermore, I strongly believe that people who are married should not get any more tax or other government benefits than unmarried people. This would then eleviate the need for same-sex civil partnerships.
If two people want to become life partners, provided they are both above the age of consent, then let them. If it's a man and a woman, good luck to them. If it's two women, no problem (especially if they are both good-looking and are, you know, a bit bi-curious and fancy spicing their sex lives up a bit...)
And if it's two men, well, that's up to them isn't it? Nothing to do with anyone else is it? If you don't like it, you just have to turn a blind eye to them.
