We've faced this before, albeit in different scenarios. There was the emancipation of black slaves, then the feminist movement, then the civil rights movement. I don't understand why, in an otherwise secular society, we are bound by the archaic 'morals' of the bible. To say that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman is a feeble argument, at best. Historically, marriage has never been between '1 man and 1 woman', but between 1 man and however many women he wanted to marry (or could afford to marry). Recently, that idea of marriage has been changed in the West to fit modern morals. What is stopping us from changing it again?

Secondly, Marriage is and always has been religious. If Church and State are truly separate in the U.S., then why does the federal (or state) government have the right to decide what marriages different religious institutions are allowed to sanction?

Finally, if the idea of same-sex marriage is too terrifying for the United States, then what is the argument against same-sex civil unions? It would give gays and lesbians the same rights as their straight counterparts and not violate any religious 'morals'. Denying these rights would be going against everything the U.S. stands for, and create another rift in our society where none should exist.

I'm sure you've never even read a page in the Bible but it's all the Old Testament and New Testament and if you really want me to give you examples I can give you about ten distinct passages where God states that marriage is between one man and one women. Try to educate yourself before you run your mouth.

Where in the bible does God command that marriage take place between man and woman explicitly? Whats more of a slap in God's face is the way people on earth are treating one another. To think that Jesus' message was one of peace, compassion, "judge not...." and so on, that we are now going against His message in His own name???? I'm at a loss of words on that topic.

God says marriage is distinctly between a man and a women. I think gays getting a married is a direct slap in God's face.

Wow I love how you have committed blasphemy. "He wouldn't support gay marriage" I'm glad to know that you have direct communication to God and that He has expressed his opinions to you on this topic. Don't even attempt to create the illusion that God is on the ANTI-GAY side, and that the rest of us are against Him. You have no knowledge of what God thinks, or has planned for us. To say otherwise is blasphemous. The discussion here is NOT what "liberal law professors" are saying, but simply gay marriage. Your attempts to divert the argument to the repealing of pedophile laws are furthering the point that outside of a Divine communique which you claim to have with God, you have no arguments to it. You are totally free to believe in whatever your religion tells you, but nowhere in the bible did God call gays out, or comment on their rights to marriage. The line our society must draw is equal rights. As a society we must stop needlessly dividing our people. Stop making judgements as to who gets rights and who doesn't. Of course child molesters, and sexual predators are not going to be included in these "equal rights" with regards to marrying children. The thought that this could ever be an issue that would be taken seriously in this country is ridiculous. Alot of people say alot of crazy things, that doesn't mean there is any substance to it. A number of KKK members say they want all minorities out. Should I draw a comparison between them and people who want illegal immigrants out? No. The same way you can't draw comparisons between pedophiles/child molesters and gays. You use religion as your trump card. Lets look at Christianity. Jesus says, "Judge not lest you be judged". He also taught love, peace, compassion and all that other good stuff. Yet for some reason you want to judge them, deny them equal rights, and compare their potential freedom to the possibility of the repealing of child sex offender laws?I must know Christianity differently from what you know of it.

I think that those who posted votes for the Con argument are sad and tragic for the obvious reason that there was no Con argument.

Thanks for your contribution! *sarcasm*

And personally I think gay marriage is completely wrong. I love gay people but I will never support gay marriage. Marriage is a gift from God. No one is born gay despite the drastic efforts by liberal scientists to find a gene or some DNA that says so. Just look at the anatomy of a human body. It was never designed for two men to have intercourse. Same with women. Marriage is between a man and a women. If you're not a Christian then disregard this point, but God stresses the gift of marriage and its sacred value between a man and a women. And to be honest, I do not think he'd be marching in a gay parade. I think he would be opposed to gay marriage ten times out of ten. He loves gay people just as much as us, but He would not support gay marriage, and normally I tend to lean on God's side.

that's the whole point. all these liberal professors are saying that the age law in adult-child sex should be removed. I mean come on, if we can give two human men the right to marry, why can't we allow a man and a boy to get married? that is was this loons are arguing. I'm not saying that allowing gay marriage is going to produce all these terrible things, but you're talking just like someone in the 1950s who would think you were an idiot for thinking the same sex could get married. All I'm saying is that where are we going to draw the line? Society is heading down a dangerous path.

Again with the "Pandora's Box" theories. Its shameful that people cannot address the single issue of GAY MARRIAGE AMOUNG 2 CONSENTING ADULTS. They cannot address it because they have no viable argument other than to bring forth irrelivent issues like man-boy marriage, and whatever else. By allowing gay marriage we are not sending the message that underage children can now marry men. I feel the law is very clear in that regard, its called statitory rape, child molestation, and sexual assault. So lets not attempt to use issues which have already been addressed legally to argue against gay marriage. The theory that all of a sudden people are going to mobilize to overturn molestation laws, of allow children to be victim of "man-boy marriage" is absurd.

Shelbih, homosexuality has been identified in over 400 animal species which means that it is not just a fallacy of human nature. If God truly didn't want homosexuals, why are such a substantial number of species also "guilty" of this "imperfection"

Anyways, your only argument against gay marriage is the religious argument. But guess what- we have a separation of church and state. I'm not going to start a debate on this wall but i'm happy to have a formal debate about it.
