I will be taking the PRO stance on Glenn Beck being a nut-case. That is to say, unsound and non-normal to a high degree in a negative way in relation to mental health.

No tricky semantics or word-games may be used in this debate.

Hello. Thanks for starting this debate :)

Firstly glenn beck is an established conservative politician, commentator and entrepreneur
So with someone who may have contreversial views but it still a member of a growing popular party be classified as a
"nutcase" or dangerous ?

Thank you to Con for accepting this debate, it should fun.

"Firstly glenn beck is an established conservative politician"

No, that's incorrect. Glenn Beck has never been appointed to any government office.

"So with someone who may have contreversial views but it still a member of a growing popular party be classified as a
"nutcase" or dangerous ?"

Don't get me wrong. This isn't about politics. I, myself, identify more with Libertarians than anyone else, even though I'm not one. And Glenn's views hardly reflect that of the Libertarian Party might I add. But that's a whole other debate.

I will try to refrain from making this a debate completely centered around videos. But let me present this as my first piece of evidence. We'll see where we go from there.

To provide you with some evidence of his background

Your video could suggest this man is highly disturbed, To call someone a " nutcase" is to presume they are dangerous
or mentally unstable, I would not say he fits the measures for that quite yet.
Im not actually " libertarian I Could not find " liberal" under the beliefs lol, but i find that statement
quite irrelevant as it dosent relate much to the debate.

I know " nutcase" can be used in a coloquial term but as we are focusing on the definition i will keep it straight. :)

Many people can vary with personality traits its easy to call someone a "nutcase" for the joke of it or say someones "screw loose"
Society is to quick to judge on the way people react ,It seems he does not have alot of repetitive history of mental breakdowns as such.

I dont find his anger any different from someone like my mums or everyday people under stress who break like that if so we are all nutcases, :)

First, I described what this debate was going to be about in the first round. I said nothing about him being dangerous and I also said there shall be no word-games so don't try to argue that saying he is a nut-case MUST imply that he is also dangerous.

More arguments to present my point he is mentally unsound:

.He has Attention Deficit Disorder, which in itself is obviously a mental disorder.

.Both his mother and brother suffered from depression and committed suicide. Glenn himself considered suicide in the 90s.

.Glenn is Mormon...need I go further into that?
MeganLoaskia

Con

you I understand where your coming from.

& I don't want to play "word semantics" but nutcase is defined as someone who may be dangerous, but ok ill take your word for it.

Firstly its quite funny You brought up the " ADD" because I have it!, and both of my parents are recovered drug addicts and my dad suffers with depression severely due to crystal,.

ADD is as not obvious mental disorder, it cant be easily picked up or recognised, So so far your suggesting he was mental because he suffered with it? Could you really cataract A.D.D as a severe mental disorder?.
His family background may suggest the likeliness of him turning mental is quite substantial , yet there is no definitive proof that he has done something that is physically harming or any huge crimes.
I think that maybe because of his family previous history and so fourth it may be more believable to suggest he may be a "Nutcase" but as yet no huge proof.
ADD does not make him unstable or physically ill.

Over to you.

"Just use the spell check button."

If she truly is dyslexic sometimes that button doesn't help that much, either.

@Roylatham Thank you for posting that and saving me some time.

@Freedo Come on man, there is no point in arguing about ridiculous stuff. Democrats and Republicans agree our healthcare costs need to be controlled, so why don't we focus on that.

Those studies you point to are ridiculous because like Roylatham is saying they don't take into account how horribly spoiled and stupid most Americans are. We have the most obese population in the world, because of horrible decisions people make in regards to food. These bad diets results in chronic diseases that have to be maintained with expensives medications for 30-40 years and that is what is killing our healthcare system. Hypertension, Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes, and numerous others are racking up Billions of dollars a year and killing so many people that it hurts those statistics.

Now if you want to look at a real study, read one that shows life expectancy of patients after being diagnosed with a disease, then we will talk.

FREEDO, America probably has the best health care system. That's because 70-80% of health is determined by lifestyle, and not the health care system. With respect to health, the American lifestyle stinks. Costa Rica's health care system is ranked better than the US, but they spend less than $400 per year on health care. Their life expectancy is only two years less than the US. However, they lack the problems with drugs, violence, suicide, and traffic fatalities that plague the US, and they have much healthier habits of diet and exercise. The Costa Ricans are wealthy enough to have basic public health measures like sanitation. It is fundamentally foolish to equate "health" with "health care system" as leftists pushing an agenda usually do.

mds1303: Seriously? Most experts do NOT agree that America has the best healthcare. "it is a fact!" haha, oook...that's right, put absolutely no effort into giving any kind of source or back-up to that point at all. The National Health Association ranks America as #36.

MeganLoaskia: Good grief, find the "check your spelling" link at the bottom of the debate and comment windows and use it.

"don't" "you" "can't" "losing" "argument" "it's" Six spelling and three punctuation errors in one sentence must contend for the record.
