Well I believe that global warming is real because the temperature is steadily rising and the world won't believe that. Car emitting amounts of CO2 gas in the world. Here is the list of the top 20 CO2 Emissions.

Overall the U.S is the top of the list and the CO2 emissions is still coming. These gases are to blame, but CO2 can be on the list.
the production, importation, exportation, placing on the market, use, recovery, recycling, reclamation and destruction of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), other fully halogenated chlorofluorocarbons, halons, carbon tetrachloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, methyl bromide (MBr), hydrobromofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and bromochloromethane, hereinafter referred to as "regulated substances", and, in certain cases, products or equipment containing these substances;
the information to be reported concerning these substances;
inspections and penalties;
new substances.

This is my first debate, and I am inexperienced, but I strongly disbelieve in the theory of this so-called "global warming." For one thing, back in the mid-20th century, the theory of global cooling arose, but as we know today, that theory was rejected. Even though we may be having some ice melting in the arctic, many places around the world is actually experiencing slightly lower than average temperatures. True, damage to the ozone layer may be causing holes over the arctic, but the impact of global warming will not be great until many years in the future. It is nothing that we today need to worry about.

I need you evidence and you showed minimum to nothing to begin. You told me that " True, damage to the ozone layer may be causing holes over the arctic, but the impact of global warming will not be great until many years in the future. It is nothing that we today need to worry about."
Well I think that we worry about it now then the consequences will be less dangerous in the future. You said that " For one thing, back in the mid-20th century, the theory of global cooling arose, but as we know today, that theory was rejected." This was of the time science was beginning they had started on the new technology. To start you need to give new more info I will let my opponent continue.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, Shlh, but I am too over-whelmed by school work and upcoming finals to debate this round and possibly the following rounds. I may, or may not, have a rebuttal for your argument for the rest of the debate.

This so called debate isn't what I was expecting, but global warming is happening not just because the fact that weather is having weird weather but the earth is warming in a substancial rate. If you have known in 2005 that 4 hurricanes have become Catagory 5 (winds of 155+)that was a record high that year. There were a record 27 named storms, of which 15 were hurricanes, exceeding the 1969 record of 12 hurricanes, and 7 were major hurricanes. Of the 7 major hurricanes, an unprecendented 4 reached category 5 status. The season was remarkable for its early beginning and number of storms as well as the intensity of the hurricanes, including the most intense hurricane on record for the Atlantic. Many records were broken during the season and a list of the most notable are available at the end of this summary. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov...
This was because of global warming.

remember this

anyone who purports a theory has to PROVE it

PROVE CO2 is affecting the atmosphere, and tell me also how you are dealing with water in the equation

and how you are monitoring solar irradiation patterns

thanks

I will like to thank you two for assisting me in my debate. I am up against my friend and we are taking this to debate.org because he wants to prove to me that many people believe in global warming and it will be next to impossible for me to win this debate, so I truly appreciate your help.

Mr. Cactur, I am new at this as well, but at least put up a reasonable defense against this tripe.

Lets start with the fact the that globe as been warming and cooling forEVER. That is what it does. Then lets recognize what happens when temperatures are warmer, there is more anerobic decomposition (that is why your bread doesn't go moldy as fast in the fridge as in the cupboard). So as the climate gets warmer there will be more decomposition. Recognize that when Mr. Gore does his song and dance that the graph showing lock step CO2 production versus temp, that CO2 is a LAGGING indicator. This means when it gets warmer that more CO2 is produced and not the other way around.

Recognize that there are very interested parties that buy into the Global Warming debate. Many of them are researchers or those who would benefit from this type of research. Sadly the media has let this ship sail with limited scrutiny. When NASA's top administrator stated that he felt "Global Warming was not a problem worth wrestling with." (http://tinyurl.com...) There was outcry about how he could be so out of touch not on the science but the politics.

Sadly there are those among us who feel that this truly is the single greatest threat the the planet faces. Unfortunately this assumes that humans and animals are rocks and stand there and die.

Let us assume that Mr. Gore is correct about the sea level rising 27 feet (which even people in the film felt compelled to come out and report as being factually untrue, saying that worst case it may be 27 inches). People will make adjustments and accommodate the needed changes.

If we were willing to put the money that would be required to control carbon into programs that actually help people now there would be much less human suffering now. Instead we could divert those funds to help the poorest among us and see great change (http://tinyurl.com...)

Global Warming

If some environmentalists are to be believed, we are on the verge of massive global climate change which will see a significant rise in sea levels, chaotic weather patterns, and catastrophic droughts all caused by small increase in global average temperature.

This site provides links to resources skeptical of those sort of doomsday scenarios. The articles linked to here are written by a wide variety of people, from scientists to laypeople, and their inclusion here should not be read as an endorsement of their positions.

Just as when dealing with things coming out of the environmentalist camp, you need to use your brain and decide for yourself to what extent global warming poses a threat to humanity.
