You first. I just want to answer your arguments, but my opening argument must be at least one hundred characters.

this is the most pathetic debate I've ever seen. You both deserve to lose this one. Would it have killed either of you to post something??

Look at everything that happens to the child before the 20th week? That's murder it not fair to the child. Research abortions and look at how the perform it. I don't you would like to be chopped into little pieces and then sucked out. Its cruel. We say lethal injection is inhuman what about abortions? Your argument on how people like sex and they see it as a risk they are will to take that fine and dandy. But if you like sex so much and you get pregnant then you need to take responsibility for your actions. There is always adoption. There are alternatives to abortions if you do not want the child. Its like getting an STD. That does not go away. Just like if you were to get in a car accident and it was your fault take responsibility. Become accountable for your actions. If you want to sleep around fine but when you get pregnant become responsible and don't take the easy way out. Killing a human being is wrong and is not fair.

Yes I am an LDer. I haven't competed much this year. Why do you ask?

God planed on murder. Look at Cain and Able. This is murder. God does know our fate He knows when we will be tested, tempted, when we will fall away from Him. He know what will happen if we take one of the 2 roads that lie a head of us. He gives us the choice to take the road less traveled the narrow and harder one. Or the one most people take the easy one. He can't just send you to heaven or hell whatever He thinks is best. Babies are pure that is why in the bible when Jesus talks about the end times He said that it will be hard on women who are giving birth because the babies will go up to heaven when Jesus comes to take his people away. Also the life of a baby begins long before it's born. A human being begins at fertilization, when the sperm and ovum meet to form a single cell. Cell is defined as a basic unit of LIVING thing. The following is what is happening from the 1st day ‘til the 20th week
Day 1 – fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins
Day 6 – embryo begins implanting in the uterus
Day 22 – heart begins to beat with the child's own blood, often a different type than the mother's
Week 5 – eyes, legs, hands begin to develop
Week 6 – brain waves detectable; mouth, lips present; fingernails forming
Week 7 – eyelids, toes form; nose distinct, baby kicking and swimming
Week 8 – every organ in place; bones begin to replace cartilage, fingerprints begin to form;
Weeks 9 and 10 - teeth begin to form, fingernails develop; baby can turn head, frown
Week 11 – baby can grasp objects placed in hand; all organ systems functioning; the baby has fingerprints, a skeletal structure, nerves, and circulation
Week 12 – the baby has all of the part necessary to experience pain, including the nerves, spinal cord and thalamus; the baby is nearing the end of the first trimester
Week 17 - baby can have dream (REM) sleep
Week 20 – the earliest stage at which partial birth abortions are performed

also in answer to your last argument

your argument is that you shouldn't have sex if you aren't going to take care of the child because there's a risk that you will get pregnant and it's not worth killing a human being. (of course this again assumes that an embryo qualifies as a human being) but even if an embryo is a human being, this logic is still absurd. there is a risk that i might kill myself and others everytime i get in my car. but that doesn't mean i shouldn't drive. car accidents kill hundreds of thousands of americans, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth the risk because we consider driving to be a good thing. similarly, most people like sex. and they judge it to be worth the risk. it is not my place to say whether or not their value judgments are correct or not just as it is not my place to tell someone that they ought not value ice cream over chocolate.

a) that assumes the bible is true
b) that assumes the bible is right about an omniscient, omnipotent god
c) those passages essentially outline the biblical justifications for fate (that everything is all part of some master plan that we as mere humans can't possibly understand or control) meaning that god must have planned for abortions to happen just as he plans for kids to get hit by buses and terrorists to crash planes into the world trade centers

even if you buy that god knit us together, then you must also believe that he is responsible for unknitting us. meaning that all the abortions that have already happened were god's work. but also, if you buy the idea that god already knows our fate on earth, then what does it matter how long we live. he knows who we would have been so he can still just put us in heaven or hell or wherever he thinks we belong. (that of course is all assuming you are correct about the first premises which i would seriously call into question)

p.s. are you an LDer?

Zara I disagree with you on pro abortion. In Jeremiah 1:5 it says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" Ephesians 1:11-12 "I chose you when I planned creation." Psalm 139:13 "I knit you together in your mother's womb." Psalm 71:6 "And brought you forth on the day you were born." Acts 17:26 "I determined the exact time of your birth and where you would live." Psalm 139:15-16 "You were not a mistake, for all your days are written in my book." You talked about embryo's and that an embryo is no more human than an amoeba. Well God says that He knew us before we were born that HE KNIT us together in your MOTHER'S WOMB. If HE did that then WE are already planned HE knows what we will be what we will do who we are isn't that enough for you? Isn't than enough reason not to destroy a human being? If you are old enough to have sex you are old enough to care for a child. And if you can't care for a child then you shouldn't have sex. That's all there is to it. And its easy to say no.

"is" = state of being
"not" = negation of

negating god's being?? pretty self-explanatory. but if you need it restated, "god doesn't exist," "there is no god," etc etc i think you get the gist.

as for rojogato19, i believe you are confused. i am by no means in favor of killing babies. that would be unfortunate indeed. i rather like babies.

however

an embryo is not a baby. an embryo is no more human than an amoeba.

fertility clinics throw away thousands of extra fertilized eggs all the time. is that so wrong?

every time you jack off, you are spilling thousands of could-be-humans. is that so wrong?

finally, i see no marginal benefit in the death penalty. the only real argument is that it costs less, but in the american court system, it is actually much more costly to execute a criminal. also perhaps deterrence, but a criminal has a greater chance of being killed on the streets than on death row. death row has an execution rate of 2%.

that said, i feel it is probably better to err on the side of not executing them since there is no benefit and there is always the risk that the person was in fact innocent. and on balance, killing innocents is not high on my list of priorities. (and of course by innocents, i mean humans and not clusters of human cells)
