groupthink - n. the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility. [1]

oppression - n.
1. prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control.
2. the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control.
3. mental pressure or distress. [2]

humanity - n.
1. the human race; human beings collectively.
2. humaneness; benevolence. [3]

mob mentality - Herd mentality, or mob mentality, describes how people are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors, follow trends, and/or purchase items. Examples of the herd mentality include stock market trends, superstition, home décor, etc. [4]

It is my assertion that groupthink is the main support mechanism (not cause) of oppression. Mainly because groupthink discourages people from using their own critical thinking skills and encourages mob mentality. In my opinion, groupthink programming is instilled through various methods such as education, religion, government, media etc.

I totally pureheartedly agree that group think has a negative outcome due to the lack of effort on the process.
You could totally vote the affirmative on that aspect.

HOWEVER, if you would like to see another side as to why this can be incorrect and that small inkling that you think about when you tackle this topic then look to the negative side.

The reason why people become hessitant to immediately affirm this topic is due to the fact that affirming is purely onesided. It is very obsessed with a tunneled view due to bad effects of history.

Yet, since we are already far aways from this HISTORY, i think we can be able to move on and think more clearly about this topic because group think has a positive outcome a small yet affirmable outcome. The fact is group think is basically the same as brainstorming where multiple people come to a conclusion that yes this is the correct path. When an issue arises that it can no longer be tackled alone then the only OPTION is by tackling it by the masses. This is usually the reason why group think occurs.

I thank you for your response and appreciate your view on the topic. However, brainstorming is not the same as groupthink because it involves creative thinking to solve a problem in an innovative way. Brainstorming inherently incorpporates a break away from the norm or status quo. I am in total agreement with brainstorming. Groupthink tends to involve an obsession with a a "tunneled view due to bad effects of history", as you put it.

Brainstorming is a group or individual creativity technique by which efforts are made to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas spontaneously contributed by its member(s). [1]

Many would arge that oppression is at an all time high in the present. I do not know the brainstormers who you are referring to, yet, the rise of protests against austerity and the continuation of the rule by a few ideology seems to illustrate that oppression currently exists and that it is not a historical phenomenon.
