Hello everyone :), it's Kylar with an interesting, macabre (dark/death humor) debate offer. I want to debate this topic: which is a better execution device to decapitate someone?
Is the guillotine a better execution device for this macabre method of execution...which I believe it is, or could the classic axe and chopping block be a better choice.
I await my opponett eagerley, and I look forward to a great debate, a fun, and macabre one :).
Good luck, you might persuade me to change my view :)!

The guillotine, though not as old as the axe, has a rich history so I'm more than willing to debate with you on this topic.
The guillotine has become realistically well known from the French revolution for its efficiency and ease of upkeep.

I thank you for this debate my friend :).
The guillotine is a better execution device for beheadings.
It is quicker and easier to use.
The prisoner is placed on the bascule, strapped to it and pushed forward, their head goes in a hole, and the hole brace is placed on top of their neck. The rope is pulled and the blade falls, severing the victm's head. It is over quickly, where an axe could take a long time to cut the victim's head off if the executioner is not expierienced.
Thanks for the debate :), post your arguments for the ax being better, friend

The axe however, was far cheaper for the kingdom or whoever may be in need of it. Where the guillotine is a large "machine" that was very expensive and the upkeep of one of these devices is very challenging. When it comes to the axe, a simple whetstone is all that is needed to keep an axe sharp and usable. When you an axe it is two pieces, the iron head and the wooden stock. A guillotine is many pieces of different materials. While, yes an inexperienced executioner would take more than one swing to remove someone's head, the execution became a social event and entertainment and the longer it would take to remove someone's head the longer you could see and chat with others.

Good arguments, but now I must refute, friend :).
First off yes, the axe executions were a big social event. But then, so was the guillotine executions...granted not during Nazi Germany's use of them but in French Revolutionary times.
Depending on how many victims were brought to the guillotine in the tumbrils on any given day, the people would find a lot of time to chat. They could have tea, and sit down and relax and chat, and cheer as the blade fell and rose on each victim.
So, the guillotine could also be a great social event
Thanks for a wonderful debate so far :)

As my opponett has forfeited Round III, I will now post my Round IV arguments.
The guillotine is quicker for executions and effective.
You are simply strapped to the platform, and your head placed in a hole. The blade takes 1/100th of a second to fall after the rope is pulled, and your head falls into the basket very quickly.
The ax could take more than one stroke and it falls slower.
Thanks for the debate :)

Going to be honest I won't be debating further because I came in with the assumption I would be on the side of the guillotine.

Tumlrnatic's vote was reported for allegedly failing to read the debate. I don't see what that has to do with a single conduct point vote, so this vote passes review.

Reasons for voting decision: Pro forfeited the debate. He made a decent case, but when he saw that he was losing he gave in with grace. I give him conduct for that reason.
