I believe there should be better background checks on who can own a gun and I believe you should not be able to own the complex types of guns that shoot a large amount of bullets at a time.

Guns in their entirety should not be restricted in that they are permitted to citizens in the second amendment of the Bill of Rights. The right to bear arms was established for a purpose in order for citizens to defend themselves from a potential tyrannical government. If the government begins to restrict the types of weaponry sold to Americans, there will be a continual process of becoming "safer," slowly making guns impossible for citizens to obtain.

When the Right to Bear Arms became an amendment, complex guns like we have today did not exist. I agree that our freedom needs to be protected but allowing citizens to own guns that are able to shoot a large amount of bullets at a time only limits our freedom because of their misuse.

I agree with your argument that we should be able to have guns in the event of a potential tyrannical government, but not the complex types of guns. Further more, even if this were to happen, the government owns more destructive weapons, which we are not able to obtain, and guns wouldn't do much to protect us in that situation.

Despite the fact the government has complex weapons of mass destruction, taking the most powerful guns away from the people will only make them weaker in fighting a tyrannical government. The Second Amendment was made at a time when not only guns but all weaponry was less advanced. The guns we have today will be help us defend ourselves from the weapons our government has today. In regulating gun control it will lead to the limitation of other rights slowly diminishing our freedom.

I'm not saying we should eliminate guns totally but their should be limitations on the types of guns we are able to own. We need compromise. We have seen a lot of school shootings happen, and even shootings outside of school. Nothing has been done to stop or lessen the amount of incidents we have due to guns. When incidents happened like the shoe bomber or 9/11 we made our airports safer immediately, but why still after so many incidents with guns we choose not to do anything about it?

Background checks and mental health evaluations should be given to potential to gun owners before the purchase firearms. There should also be mandatory laws for the ways in which guns should be stored, so that these weapons will not fall into the wrong hands. Not only this, but background checks and mental health evaluations should be given on a yearly basis. This should be the only form of gun control in the United States, that way guns will not be obtained by people with malicious intent.

Unfortunately, that is price that we must pay if we want to have certain freedoms. Guns do not kill people, only people kill people. Not only this, preventing the sale of complex weapons would not end public shootings. People would still be able to obtain weapons and still be able to use them for evil. Virtually anything that can be used for good can be used for evil and one can make a complex weapon out of almost anything. This was even evident this year during the Boston Bombings, where the suspect created bombs out pressure cookers: simple kitchen appliances. The government should only control who is able to obtain guns so that they do not infringe on people's freedom, and prevent others from obtaining weapons if they are seen to be potentially dangerous.

If we limit guns that lessens the possibility of a shooting even more. Having less complex guns around prevents criminals from stealing complex guns. While I do agree we should implement your idea of background checks and mental health evaluations, we'd be even safer if we limited guns.
