Each person has to post one and only one haiku each round. Sources are irrelevant, do not give anyone points based upon them. Spelling counts, but you can't vote for better grammar if my opponent uses punctuation, or does not capitalize the first letter of every line.

Are you sure you want to keep this to just one haiku per round?

Sorry about the last one. Because this is a battle, I needed at least one "slam" poem.

Pro

First of all, Nature Slash Verbalism is 6 syllables. Second of all, verbalism is not a word.

Con

1. A "/" is not a word, nor is it a syllable.
1b. If you want to count it as a syllable, you might as well count commas as syllables.
2. There aren't syllable requirements. The most important part of a haiku is the seasonal word.
3. It doesn't matter if verbalism is a word. Its meaning is clear, anyway.

Oh, it's absolutely not a requirement; but, it's also not a good haiku, either. :)

Sure, but it isn't a requirement.

But if you remove the 5-7-5 syllable pattern, the haiku kind of loses its flow; it's amazing what difference one syllable can make.

iamadragon
No. The 5-7-5 is for haiku written in Japanese, and it's something different from syllables.

Haikus do have syllable requirements, 5-7-5, and verbalism is a word.

Apparently though, they're supposed to contain seasonal words.

Also, haikus don't have to follow a syllable structure.

I hope this does stick to 1 haiku per round. I find them most eloquent when they stand alone.

Is it specifically not supposed to rhyme? Who created that rule? Does that not contradict the free spirit of the haiku?
