Everybody considers hairdressers as stupid,I believe that this is wrong, hairdressers are very imaginative, some people do not seem to understand that it requires alot of effort to use sissors and some people go to college to train for 4 years!
I think That this is a id remark and it is only used becuase hairdressers focus mainn hair and people think that that makes them airheads.

===> INTRO <===

I thank my opponent for this debate. The resolution, simply stated is that "hairdressers are stupid." This is not a universal statement (that ALL hairdressers are stupid), nor would it be possible to empirically prove either the PRO or the CON for such a universal statement,[1] therefore I will attempt to prove only what the resolution requires and logically implies: that *some* hairdressers are stupid.

===> REBUTTALS <===

I'll begin by briefly refuting my opponent's points.

----> "Everybody considers hairdressers as stupid."

This is not true. Indeed, *some* people may consider *some* hairdressers to be stupid, but a such a universal statement is wholly unwarranted.

----> "Hairdressers are very imaginative"

Even if it is true, this proves nothing. Andy Warhol had an IQ of 86 and was very imaginative.[8]

----> "it requires alot of effort to use sissors"

No it doesn't. Pre-schoolers can use scissors.

----> "some people go to college to train for 4 years!"

If it takes four years of college for someone to learn how to cut hair, it can safely be said they are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

===> ARGUMENTS <===

Stupid: adj. Characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless.[2]
Hairdresser: n. One who cuts or arranges hair.[3]

I have evidence directly from my opponent's profile confirming that she is a hairdresser:

"Activities: i [sic] love doing hairdressing ( and if anyone truns [sic] around and says typical hairdresser i [sic] will not be happy)"[4]

This quote, in addition to proving the my opponent is a hairdresser, also proves that she is stupid; the flagrant spelling and grammatical errors render it almost entirely incoherent.

In her 1R argument, CON's entire opening paragraph is a massive run-on sentence. I count five independent clauses improperly linked with commas. Of the five, only one even has a coordinating conjunction! Additionally, "alot" is in fact two separate words: "a lot," and "sissors" should be spelled "scissors."

The second paragraph is barely intelligible. The word "That" is seemingly capitalized for no reason. I also count three misspellings of relatively simple words. CON has again opted to pack (three) independent clauses together like sardines in a can. To her credit, however, she at least used coordinating conjunctions this time.

Finally, my opponent has participated in a total of three debates and (as of this writing) lost all of them by a unanimous vote.[5][6][7] The argumentation in them is all of similar poor quality.

----> CONCLUSION

I want to emphasize that none of my arguments are intended as personal attacks. My opponent chose the topic; I am merely supporting my position.

There are many more errors that are readily apparent in my opponent's arguments, but it is senseless to belabor the point. Suffice to say, it would be an insult to toddlers everywhere to say that she writes at a preschool level. Given this, her appalling win-loss record, and consistently weak argumentation, the only conclusion to be drawn is that she, a hairdresser, is indeed stupid.

The resolution is AFFIRMED, thank you and vote PRO.

Debate Round No. 1

Con

I would like to thank my opponent for accepting my argument. However I would not appreciate the fact that he has called me stupid, when he does not even know me and I believe he should apologise for this.
He has not made it clear why he thinks that hairdressers are stupid, but only feels that he has to moan about my spelling and punctuation errors.
Yes I know that I do not always type correctly, but this has nothing to do with this debate, I do try very hard the best I can to try and do everything correctly, but sometimes this isn't good enough for people.

Carrying on with my argument, my opponent has stated that it doesn't take year to learn how to use scissors. If this is so then can he tell me what fingers hairdressers hold their scissors in and what is the movement made?
Yes I am a hairdresser and I am sick and tired of being called stupid, and I would like to know why, if my opponent cannot give a valid reason and just pick on everything I have done wrong that has got nothing to do with the debate, then I would kindly ask him to terminate the debate.

===> INTRO <===

My opponent has called on me to apologize however, if anyone is guilty of poor conduct, surely it is my opponent for instigating a debate in which she specifically ASKS for evidence that hairdressers are stupid, only to cry foul when I attempt to do so! As I said earlier, my arguments were not intended as personal attacks. I am only supporting my case. I will not apologize for their content, however, I do sincerely apologize for any offense they may have caused.

I want to stress that I DO NOT think that ALL hairdressers are stupid, but again, this is not required in order to uphold the proper interpretation of the resolution.

===> REBUTTALS <===

----> "[M]y opponent has stated that it doesn't take year to learn how to use scissors. If this is so then can he tell me what fingers hairdressers hold their scissors in and what is the movement made?"

Roughly stated, my opponent's argument runs thus:

1) Difficult tasks require specific technical knowledge.
2) Cutting hair requires specific technical knowledge
::. Therefore, hairdressing is a difficult task.

This is a fallacy known as affirming the consequent.[1] If we knew a priori that hairdressing is a difficult task, given the first premise, we could conclude that it requires specific technical knowledge. However, this is not true in the reverse.

Moreover, my opponent could simply *tell* me how to hold the scissors and what motion to make. If she were to do this, I would learn in a matter of minutes, thus negating her point.

===> ARGUMENTS <===

CON has committed yet more of the errors that characterized her 1R. She has not refuted any of my points. Extend all arguments.

----> CONCLUSION

The resolution is AFFIRMED, thank you and vote PRO.

I needed a little humor in my day. If I didn't know better this entire debate was a set-up for a lesson in good comedy.

Thank you for the laugh.

Interestingly, people going to school for cosmetology have to put in more time than people training to be medical assistants.

Megan, is there a reason why you voted a straight seven to my opponent, who forfeited a round, called me a "f***ing prick" in the comments, provided no sources, and spells at a pre-school level?

Yah, I'm pretty sure she's a troll. I'm kinda just pretending it's a real debate because it's basically a free win and I figured I wouldn't have enough time to do a debate on a real topic before I leave for spring break.

Once I get back I have some more serious ones planned against more prominent DDO members.
