Halo Vs Call of Duty
Debate Rounds (3)
Halo has better Soundtrack - Very Emotional and nostalgic
Halo has a better story to tell in an amazing universe with great depth and characters.
Halo has a better Theater Mode - Play and Save previous games and share.
Halo has better community made montages, machinima's, maps etc.
Halo has better graphics - Technical lighting
Halo has better gameplay- Sandbox
Best game to have an epic vehicle run with amazing controls in a fps.
Better Balanced and more skill based multiplayer.
Secondly, because CoD is a multi-platform game, it automatically better than Halo? fantastic argument.
1. My reasons as to why Halo's campaign is better:
It is widely known having an epic expansive lore about a games universe draws people into a game. Games that have this lore are stories usually told over many games and connects everything together. Everyone knows franchises like Mass Effect, Half Life, Skyrim, Fallout etc are better than your stand alone franchise like Battlefield, Rainbow Six and cod etc.. These games are are at the top of the list of games last generation and usually have novels, graphic novels and such written abouts it's universe BECAUSE it's so engaging. Mass Effect has it's graphic novels and Halo has not just novels but New York Best sellers (Highest accolade for a novel). With the backstories created by these novels ENRICHES the universe further and is brought into future games.
Cod has nothing. Don't get me wrong cods campaign is good great actually but it is no Halo and is not in the same category. It's mediocre. It is widely known that cod's campaign is a one play-trough type of thing and everyone just goes to the multiplayer.
Now onto gameplay in the campaign. All cod is an arcade corridor shooter. Meaning it has a step by step constricted gameplay. Shoot in hallways and rooms (which is not bad) BUT that is all cod is and it gets very boring and bland very quick (hence the one time play-trough), Even the vehicle sections (if you can call them that) you are on a restricted path. Oh and nearly forgot the enemy A.I. is horribly predictable in cod. They spawn in the same play, usually walk to the same place, pop up in the same window etc.
Halo on the other hand has a lot more variety. You can do everything cod does plus more. Not only is Halo a corridor shooter it is a sandbox shooter too (Large open battles areas). No two battles is alike. Halo is known for it's infamous "30 seconds of fun"... ergo every 30 secs something new happens.
Go in all guns blazing
Stay back and snipe
or in Co-op do them both
Use a vehicle warthog with your co-op as driver/gunner Use a mongoose/Ghost/ Wraith/ Banshee
Sandbox Battles (wide open spaces) Many, Many different ways to advance and attack using strategies applied while""" playing with a brother or friend etc.
Halo: CE's enemy A.I is one of the best A.I. in any game and still does. They change things up. They flank you. They run away if their leader is dead etc.
Lastly SKULLS. You get skulls to change the gameplay up. LASO anyone??
2. EXTRA:: My rebuttal to your argument:
a) "COD is on both Xbox and PS3 therefore more people can play it so they get a better community."
Incorrect sir about more people bring in the better community.
Yes Cod is a multi-platform game but that does not make it better. It has nothing to do with the in game mechanics. Yes cod does draw more people since it it multi-platform and it's noob friendly but how does that make it have the better community??
You do realize in nearly 4/5 lobbies you hear screaming kids berating each other.
I mean think about it this way..
it just so happens Cod has more immature kids on it. Hell there is a youtube channel dedicated to trolling""" little kids on Cod (minnesotaburns).
Not saying Halo doesn't have any screaming trash talking children, it's just that cod attracts immaturity.
I mean very few kids would pick a game with an epic nostalgic story over an arcade online shooter witch requires little to no skill.
b) "The campaign is better in Call of Duty and there are new characters in most new games."
It is arguable that old recurring characters are better than new and confusing story that comes with nearly every cod game bar a few. Halo was a trilogy after all, It follows the events. So the characters you come to love are carried out over more than one game is better for the emotional story.
b) "Call of Duty has better guns and it is more fun. "
Again it's arguable that cod has better guns. Although cod has more majority of them do the same thing whilst Halo's guns actually do what they do are are very different to one another. Besides the Battle Rifle from Halo is known as MLG's favourite weapons out of all games.
More fun? Don't think so. Fun? yes. Cod is fun, a pick up and play arcade corridor shooter fun but Halo has much more to offer and appeals to a wide variety of gamers from people who love to get engaged with an expansive well written universe to hardcore MLG players (MLG, Team Doubles, Team S.W.A.T playlists) to casual gamers (social big team, action sack playlists) to creative gamers who like to mess around and create literally anything in FORGE to people who love making montages, machinima's (Theater mode).
c) "Both games have famous Youtubers but with a wider fan base more people watch Call of Duty videos"
Of course cod has a wider fanbase it's a MULTI-PLATFORM GAME aka wider audience.
Yes more people watch call of duty videos. You know why?? because these youtubers take advantage of immature little kids. Think about it.. they make money from these kids watching these videos on youtube because they are really gullible. Hell even the one of the best cod youtuber is likes Halo more, his first few videos ever were of Halo: Reach because he likes it but uploads cod because he earns a living. I am of course talking about Syndicate.
You look at this video this guy says it all (I recommend watching it all but start at around 5:66)
Plus Halo is the most viewed and most played game in MLG. Therefore more hardcore players who take skill and strategic thinking into account while watching rather than little kids watching a game where a guy hides in a corner with a knife the whole game.
d) "Both games have pretty much the same "skilled" players, but they both have little kids."
Yes both have kids but cod attracts more due to it's noob friendsly arcade (pick up and play) game style
Wrong about skill mate.
Why Halo takes more Skill.
Both games take a certain amount of skill but Halo takes much more in comparison to Cod. When you are getting shot at in Cod 9/10 the is nothing you can do, you generally cannot run away unless the person shooting is a downsyndrome you can't kill them. Halo you actually get benefited for having a good aim and intelligence.
Say if a person shoots at u first u have time, if skilled enough, you can overcome the odds and kill him. Not who sees who first. Hence the shields.
Halo starts you off with the same weapons...ergo everyone is on equal footing. It is how you use those weapons is how you succeed. It is about about skill, strategy & (sometimes teamwork).
Plus in Halo nearly all your kills are from your weapon (True FPS style) not having the computer do it for you (attack dogs, pave low).
e) "Call of Duty games are 60fps and Halo 4 has 30fps."
While that is true before. Halo MCC and future Halo games will have it but that is a mere bonus to a game just like graphics is.
I mean I still play and prefer Star Wars Battlefront 2 more than most games out now that are ore 'technioly superior.'
d) I'm sorry but your last sentence makes NO sense whatsoever
"Call of Duty is a game based on military and Halo is Based on Robots and Aliens which don't exist. At least we can see are main character's face."
The correct way of saying is that Halo is a Sci-Fi Shooter. So what if they don't exist??????
Sorry for the language used in my nest part but it has to be said.
Of course its more realistic. Doesn't make it better. Halo is not trying nor meant to be realistic.
Whats with the 'realistic' thingy with cod fans...its like you's have an obsession with realism.
Mass Effect isn't Realistic
KOTOR isn't Realistic
Oblivion isn't realistic
Fallout 3 isn't realistic
Half Life isn't realistic
They are all considered best games of this generation.
Realism doesn't define if a game is better.
Of course halo is unrealistic over a game that is TRYING to be realistic. It DOES NOT make it better.
Realism doesn't make a game better..
WHO EVER SAID A GAME HAS TO BE REALISTIC TO BE BETTER??????????????
Who the hell gives a s**t if a game is unrealistic???
What counts is the great campaign, character development, great sound design, creativity and competitive and fair yet fun multiplayer.
All of which Halo has in spades
The reason why you can't see Master Chief's face is mainly because the developer wants YOU to feel like YOU are in HIS shoes. You see it everywhere in Metroid Prime for example. You are just Nit-Picking now.
legogh forfeited this round.
Below is why Halo requires more skill and in turn is makes it a better more balanced multiplayer game.
Before I continue let me say you have many other game types that suit the casual gamer from Social Big Team to Action Sack to creating literally anything with FORGE, as I said before.
Now back onto why Halo takes more skill:
- Part 1-
Both games take a certain amount of skill but Halo takes much more in comparison to Cod. When you are getting shot at in Cod 9/10 the is nothing you can do, you generally cannot run away and unless the person shooting has downsyndrome you can't kill them. Halo you actually get benefited for having a good aim and intelligence or awareness. Halo was on the MLG circuit long before Cod you know.
Who are the most skillful gamers in the world... MLG players. What game is played the most in MLG for 8 years running...Halo.
Say if a person shoots at you first you have time, if skilled enough, you can overcome the odds and kill him. Not who sees who first. Hence the armor/shields.
It is all about precise aiming (4 shots to the head with br), Strafing (dodging), strategy, map control.
- Part 3 -
Cod - People say more guns. Bad reason because it makes the game unbalanced.
Halo starts you off with the same weapons...ergo everyone is on equal footing. It is how you use those weapons is how you succeed. It is about about skill, strategy &(sometimes teamwork).
Plus in Halo nearly all your kills are from your weapon (True FPS style) not having the computer do it for you (attack dogs, pave low)
The most known MLG Pro's are Halo players and have great montages.
- Part 4 -
Even something has simple has Grenades take skill. Watch Walshy's Grenade Tutorial. Start at around 4:20. For example trow a nade on the ground then trow the second it will propel further in your intended direction and kill your target.
You can see the these video's in the references below.
I almost forgot to mention call-outs and team work. You see a lot more co-operation where it counts. You hear a lot more strategic thinking and callouts than screaming insults as in cod.
More Info on TRUE SKILL Ranking:
Halo has this True Skill Ranking in most of it's games. This pairs you with people of the same skill range as you.
In cod it's random. You could be fighting with or against noobs in one game and really good players in another.
You see the only way you can get better for yourself is to play with people of similar skill level or higher...just like in any other sport.
I mean the whole gameplay of halo requires skill to be a above average player.
Please look up that grenade tutorial here:
And Kampy's Montage (Great Editing):
Kampy :: Apex - A Halo 3 Montage
That is why Halo takes more Skill than cod and in-turn makes it more balanced and fair.
Lastly, how much fun is this Achievement Horse series from Rooster Teeth:
This youtube playlists says everything very well in tems of this argument:
The campaign uses some old characters if there are the same developers such as the Modern Warfare series. The campaign is kind've bland but there are some choices in some games. There are many annoying kids on COD but do you think the parents care what their kids hear on these games. No they really don't. If the people that sold copies of the games really paid attention then that problem would be solved. COD has reached a lot of the targeted audience so don't keep talking about midget trash talkers.
Halo 5 and Advanced Warfare were compared on two websites that i looked at and one said that Halo 5 is just like AW and the other one was talking about how Halo 5 has more time so the amount of hype would be more since people have anticipated this game for a longer time.
The amount of skill it takes depends about how you play, mate. If you snipe a lot you need way more skill than someone with an assault rifle running through the map shooting random stuff. Plus you could try challenges for yourself such as using only pistols or knife only. You may have to do some of this by yourself instead of making the game do it for you.
Back to multiplayer, you can do something if you are shooting or being shot at. In AW you could use your exo suit to strafe or jump up to evade it. Or if you better than that you could maybe jump up and shoot to kill. Either way it still requires some skill, it could take more if you were fighting someone good not a midget trash talker. Some people would rather have a realistic game to play but COD is becomong way more futuristic.
