Why would you name yourself Harry Truman, didn't he blow up Japan?
harrytruman

Pro

Believe it or not Harry Truman did many good things such as:
1). Integrating the marines.
2). Gave 13 billion dollars to rebuild Europe after World War Two.
3). Was the first person to acknowledge the Nation of Israel.
4). Aimed toward full employment in the United States
5). Expanded Social Security
6). Passed the Fair Employment Practices Act
7). Started "Fair Deal" policies
8). Sent aid to Berliners when the Soviet Union blockaded them.
9). Aimed for Ciivil rights for all American Citizens.
10). Pulled America out of a recession in 1945.

Yes, but he killed 100,000 people.
harrytruman

Pro

True, but those are just casualties of war, we were at war with an aggressive nation and he didn't want to risk American lives while he could press a button and be done with it.

I can get "casualties of war," but there are a few issues with that statement;
#1. Those were Civilians, not soldiers.
#2. There is still residual radiation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki which is flooding the Pacific Ocean and killing the fish.
harrytruman

Pro

1). True, but these locations had military bases in them, and those were hostile civilians who were brainwashed.
2). Yes, but they didn't know the effects of radiation back then since these bombs were the first dropped on an Ocean Area.

"1). True, but these locations had military bases in them, and those were hostile civilians who were brainwashed."

Because the best thing to do with brain-washed civilians - including the children and babies, mind - is to kill them.
Obviously.

Reasons for voting decision: The way I see it, you left it up to me to decide whether his good policies and the good reason for dropping the nukes outweigh killing a ton of people. I would say yes. In the end, fewer people probably died. Also, the fish have nothing to do with this debate bacuse you are talking about whether he was a good guy, and he had no idea about the fish. So in the end, what is my answer to the statement "Truman was a good guy?" Drum roll please..... True, man! (I crack myself up.)
