Hi, this is my first debate. Basically the Pro side will argue that the American presence in the Middle East has had more of a negative impact than a positive one. And the Con side will argue that the Americans have been helpful. I don't agree with my viewpoint, but I chose it for an extra challenge.

First round: Acceptance/ Opening Argument
Second round: Rebuttal
Third round: Rebuttal
Fourth: Closing Argument.

Okay should be fun! :D

This was my favorite argument to run in collegiate debate. =) I'm excited for another opportunity to advocate this position.

My approach to this debate will primarly reflect an argumentative duality. First, I will articulate that U.S. involvement has not been sucessful at achieving it's intended goal. And second, I will advocate that U.S. invovlement has been detrimental to long term peace/stability in the region. I'll primarily be arguing from an Iraq/Afghanistan viewpoint, but if you'd like to consider other countries in the middle east, feel free to bring them up. I have some decent arguments for a couple of other places.

Well, in conclusion I'll say that Pro did not support his claim what-so-ever and thereby fails his burden of proof. For my part I'll say that between 2001 and 2010 Taliban recruitment increased by 300% as a reaction to U.S. activity in Afghanistan. Since this is the only argument in the round it will probably go uncontested and supports my case. Cheers, vote me.
