In my own opinion I believe that Popular Music has lowered in quality due to greed for money as well laziness.
Many artists nowadays use songs that are written for them which shows that there isn't any originality within the artist. Famous icons like Katy Perry have become what they are from other peoples work and although the writers are paid their fair pay, they are not the ones who are remembered for their own work.
Icons like Taylor Swift who are famous for singing songs which have the simple chord patterns and no variating aspects in their music. This i find is one of the worst features about popular music as many artists strive to make complex music that takes knowledge and skill and yet they are rarely recognised.
These are just a few points of my opinion and I would like to hear the publics view so please comment and debate!

First off let me say that in beginning this debate you should have chosen the pro side, as you are debating in favor of music lowering in quality..

In terms of music quality, I believe quite contrary to your view that we have seen some of the most versatile and unique artists rise within the last few years.

In your arguement you state that, "Many icons like Katy Perry have become what they are from other peoples work." What other icons fall into this category as you only listed one? Do you decline the fact that some of the most influential olden day musicians (Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and even Michael Jackson) had hit songs written for them? In many ways, we have seen much more versatile and hardworking musicians make their way to the market place over the years. Singer Songwriter Ed Sheeran is a great example of this as his career kicked off after years of performing hundreds of small shows and writing song after song until he was noticed. Adele, another great example, has since made a huge impact as her music conveys a great amount of emotion and has enormous depth. Singer Songwriter Jason Mraz is another great example, having written songs that range from Jazz to Folk to Pop Rock to RnB..

I don't think that you can really say that "music quality has gone down". That's like saying that the quality of people's favourite colours has gone down. This wouldn't really make any sense since music is purely subjective to each persons taste.

Then, you should have chosen to be Pro, not Con.
