Having an art or choir class is an important class to have in the school and should be kept funded for.

I think that art becomes less important by the end of elementary school, because by then people have a pretty accurate idea of wherever poor not they are interested in art.

Perhaps, but even having it in elementary school is still having it in the schooling system. Truth of the matter is, some type of art needs to be in the school. There are all kinds of different arts, but at least one needs to be kept. The reason for this is because art, drama, singing, playing instruments, acting, painting, drawing, etc., is all apart of kids expressing themselves.
As a little kid you need to have that to help express yourself as well as find things that you are good at. As a middle schooler, you need to have it as a way to express yourself and show others 'who you are.' It is most important for high schoolers though because not only does it, again, let you express yourself, but it also lets you show your independence. It lets you tell others who you are, what you want to be, it lets you shine and have fun. Teenagers are so worried about finding themselves that they try different things, get into arguments with their parents, and even act up at school. Research shows that students who are exposed to the arts are stronger academically and can make connections with the world around them. It also gives them a break from their core classes and lets them use their imagination.

It needs to be funded for by the school. The reason I am having this debate is because some school systems want to take it out of the curriculum.

And in this importance, do you mean that it should be mandated or just funded for those who wish it?

Singing, writing, drawing, acting, painting, etc. Does that help? I guess I should also add band. I forgot about that one too. Anyways, art is along those lines and choir is singing, band is playing instruments.
