The affordable healthcare act should not be banned due to the healthcare it will provide for the uninsured. Tax payers are contributing already to those on poverty insurance carriers & this will only lead to creating a more preventative healthcare future.

--Rebuttals--

My opponents main claim is OC helps the uninsured. Although this is true, one must ask of it is worth all of the other downfalls of the bill. These will be discussed later. So the main reason people are uninsured is simple: costs. There are other effective methods, though, in combatting costs. Increasing competition through de-regulation would increase supply and lower costs. The bonus is more quality as well [1]. Other free market solutions have indeed worked in the past in increasing quality, supply, and decreasing costs. In Singapore, for example, almost all insurance is private insurance yet they pay 1/5th of what Americans pay today. The Singaore government pays $381 per capita on healthcare -- or one seventh that of the US government on its own populace. This non-government system keeps costs low and quality high [2]. Although they have high uninsurance rates it's still affordable. Why do they have so many uninsured? As one study notes it's because they believe it's still affordable [3]. We must assume this is true because source 2 indicates their stats show a very healthy populace. If this is the case, it means it is likely many lower income people can still afford care with/without insurance.

As we can see there are ways to help the uninsured AND the taxpayer ( less government less spending, therefore less taxes).

My opponents second concern is taxes. As stated above the free-market solutions would lower taxes as well. But does OC lower taxes too? As the Heritage foundation notes:

"Obamacare imposes a penalty—or tax increase—on Americans who do not purchase health insurance. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that most of those paying these taxes are middle-class individuals and families making less than 500 percent of the federal poverty level: $59,000 for an individual and $120,000 for a family of four. Three million lower-income and middle-class Americans will pay an estimated $2 billion in these "mandate taxes."[4]

As we can see this is a large burden on the American working class. Reason.com, after adding up every single tax increase, found that OC would increase total taxes on the public by over 500 billion [5].

There is also a hidden tax to ObamaCare: increased premiums. As the Heritage foundation notes:

"In a recent study by the consulting firm Oliver Wyman showed that this tax will increase insurance premiums by, on average, 1.9 to 2.3 percent in 2014. The impact will grow with time, reaching 2.8 to 3.7 percent by 2023. Like the nominal premium increases occurring due to already-enacted parts of Obamacare, these may sound insignificant on their own. But the cumulative impact—in conjunction with cost increases that would have occurred anyhow—will be much higher premiums for families and individuals: "For small group coverage, this will on average increase the cost to cover an individual by about $2,800, and a family by about $6,800 over a ten-year period, beginning in 2014."[6]

--> as we can see my opponents points are either false, or can be solved by the free market. And we must ask if OC helps the uninsured, like the free market can, then why is it bad? One must ask if it outweighs the Cons. Other then taxes here are a few reasons.

[--Case--]

Firstly, OC is unsustainable. Estimates of its costs are huge and detrimental. By the year 2021, it likely will cost two trillion dollars. By 2023 it will cost two points six million dollars! "The latest estimate, as the chart details, is that Obamacare will cost $2.6 trillion dollars in its first real decade. The bill does not fully go into effect until 2014, therefore the estimate begins with that year."[7]

Secondly, it makes the tax code worse then it already is. The current tax code has 4 billion words, and it costs Americans millions to hire accountants. ObamaCare adds 2 million more words your accountants must thumb through, and increase how much you pay them. That drains other parts of the economy [8].

Lastly, of the dozens of other options I have, I contend ObamaCare takes away your liberties. There are over 20 reasons/examples I could cite, but the most important one is ObamaCare takes away your freedom in personal healthcare and insurance decisions [9]. When I'm not writing a whole response via phone I will go into more detail.

CONCLUSION:

1. My opponents case is flawed, or better solved through the free market as ObamaCare fails to do its job on other areas where the free market prevails. (in other words, too many put falls)
2. My case shows ObamaCare fails and other systems, such as the Singapore model, should prevail

Reasons for voting decision: Economic costs don't outweigh the equitable distribution of primary social goods. Countering Micro's VB. Don't see why forfeits entail free votes. Both sides only argued one round. Adams even concedes that her argument is true.
