I think homework in schools should be optional because homework is a leading cause of stress in teens and tweens, and this generation is more stressed over school than the last. Also, I know homework is made for extra help, but what if students don't need that extra help? Should they risk failing school for not needing extra help? They come to school to learn, and most would enjoy that, but the homework is too much. it should at least be optional.
First, doing homework will prepare students for the big end tests. If a child does poorly on an assignment then they will learn what is necessary to do well on the next test without being punished. It also provides students with the opportunity to practice at what it takes to be successful in school. Like they say, practice makes perfect. Homework may seem stressful, but it builds skills such as organization and time planning which prepare students for collage.
Okay, so homework will prepare them, sure, which is why it should be OPTIONAL. If they do need to practice, they can, but if they don't need to, they shouldn't have to. Grade cause a great deal of stress among students.
