Northeast Asia is experiencing a tidal change in diplomacy. Japan attempts to legitimize collective self-defense, convincing the United States to take its side. Besides, Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, delivered a 'pro-American' speech before a joint-meeting of Congress. On the other side, South Korea is trying to keep its stance between United States and China, as well as defending Dokdo, or 'Takeshima' as referred to by Japan. Therefore, this debate will deal with how United States should handle with Japan and Korea. Both countries are allies of America, and my position is that the United States should be closer to Korea, regarding North Korea, and history problems, such as sex slaves.

Pro : The United States should be closer with Korea, regarding North Korea and history problems.
Con : The United States should be closer to Japan, regarding economic and diplomatic strategy.

Con

The small and developed island of Japan can be a far more economic, militaristic, and diplomatic partner.

Diplomatically, Japan is a world leader, working along side America. In fact, Japan and the U.S.A are the two countries who fund the U.N. The most, compared to Korea. For this reason, it is important that the USA continue ties with Japan. Japan also works side by side with the U.S. On peace in Africa, peace at the middle east, nuclear disarmament, arms control, and defilement assistance.

Economically, Japan also is a very good partner. According to GDP for 2015, Japan ranks 9 places above south Korea. Korea faces economic competition with countries like Mexico, Spain, and Saudi Arabia. In Contrast, Japan sees competition with Germany and the UK. South Korea also has an aging problem, and ages faster than almost every first world country. Meaning long-term, South Korea may not be the safest bet. Meanwhile, ever since after the post-war miracle, Japan`s economy just grows, despite multiple problems. In fact, Japan was able to hold off multiple problems with it`s might. The world is only waiting to see if Korea can do the same.

Militarily, Japan is working on a long-term plan. Japan`s PM says this new military is used ONLY to help it`s allies. This kind of deal is of profit to the U.S. According to my source, The U.S.A will probably agree to this, and Japan had success so far advocating this. Japan is getting there, so why not let them help the U.S.A in the process?

Reasons for voting decision: Pro forfeited nearly all rounds in the debate. This was a forfeiture of the majority of the debate, i.e. *all* rounds except the initial round used to present the debate as a challenge itself. Such full forfeits are generally considered unacceptable conduct in all debate settings. Con graciously forwarded their contentions and bounced the debate back to Pro to gain equalization of rounds, but to no avail, as Pro continued forfeiting all rounds of the debate. This is considered highly misconducted, and, therefore, I award conduct to Con to penalize Pro's misconduct and reward Con's gracious extension of their arguments. As always, happy to clarify this RFD.
