Ever thought of building a house on Mars? Going to school on Mars? These questions might become reality sometime in this century. Scientists say it is capable to reach, and to colonize mars. Nasa has said, "Humans will be living and working on Mars in colonies entirely independent of Earth by the 2030"s." We are destroying our planet right now. Earths extinction rate is 1000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. We are 97% of the reason that we have climate change/global warming. This would be a massive step for mankind; bringing nations together and also allow humans to expand their race and culture.

Species are disappearing off of earth faster than ever before. There is 100,000,000 different species on earth. 10,000 of them die out/go extinct every year, that number is naturally 1-5. How long is it going to be until we go extinct? What about other animals that are critical to our diets? Leaving the planet will lower our extinction rate. It will also help the animal"s that already live here to stay alive. This will allow the animals already here to thrive and expand. It will also help our planet heal itself while we are away. WWF has stated, "According to IUCN, the World Conservation Union, the monetary value (Financial value) of goods and services provided by ecosystems is estimated to amount some US$33 trillion per year." Without the lives of other species our economic lives will collapse. The whole planet will go into the biggest depression it has ever seen. WWF has also said, "We harvest an estimated 50,000-70,000 plant species for traditional and modern medicine worldwide." Saving lives is also another thing that these do. *People die every day from diseases, and most of these diseases are curable. Without these plants many more HUMANS will die. Humans need to get off the earth before either we go extinct or every other life form dies out.

Hey there. This is an interesting topic and some of the needs you point out are quite serious. I wanted to ask before accepting if you are familiar with some conventions of debate, specifically counter plans for policy topics.

Also, you may want to revise the resolution to be more specific than humans, like a government or multiple governments, that could theoretically enact a plan to colonize Mars.

The topic could read, "Resolved: the United Nations should collaborate on a mission to colonize Mars."

This would also be a more fair resolution for the, "pro" side, since you don't have to succeed at getting Mars colonized, just at a plan for it.

If you wanted to debate this with me I would favor avoiding making it about the scientific plausibility of the mission, and rather would focus on the needs such a plan would help meet (population, pollution etc...)

Let me know your thoughts.
