Definitions

I = The instigator of this debate, known as Illegalcombatant on DDO.

Exist = To have actual being. http://dictionary.reference.com...

1) Opening Arguments

I am curious if anyone will argue against this, so just in case I had better give an argument to affirm the resolution.

1) Only something that exists can question its own existence
2) I am questioning my own existence
3) Therefore I exist

"I think therefore I am"

I look forward to Cons response.

You claim that you sir, exist.

How are you to know that you exist? You say "I think therefore i am"
One does not have to have a conscious to exist , yet a blade of grass has no conscious but it still appears to exist.
But that of course would be giving you credit.

Existence

You may exist in your own mind , but to us you are just a thought traveling through hyperspace.
Is this reality real ? That would be my first query .

According to the math we learn in school, one over infinity is treated as zero because it is infinitely small. (1/infinity = 0) We are finite beings in an infinite universe. That means that we are infinitely insignificant, and therefore; do not exist.

I thank Con for their response. I would also point out this appears to be All Stars first debate on DDO...........welcome to the jungle.

Con says "One does not have to have a conscious to exist , yet a blade of grass has no conscious but it still appears to exist."

I agree, I never said that only things that have conscious exist, so how does this refute my argument ?

Con says "You may exist in your own mind , but to us you are just a thought traveling through hyperspace."

Even if we grant Cons skepticism of my existence, this doesn't refute the argument, cause the argument isn't dependent on whether other things acknowledge my existence.

Con says "That means that we are infinitely insignificant, and therefore; do not exist."

Con wrongly equates insignificance with non existence.

The first premise of my argument says "1) Only something that exists can question its own existence". This went without challenge from Con, so moving on.

The second premise says "2) I am questioning my own existence" The second premise went without challenge.

The conclusion logically follows "3) Therefore I exist"
