Debate Rounds (5)
Nurses conduct bloodwork and hormonal tests in order to coordinate the amount of hormones included in treatment with the patient"s body. Nurses communicate frequently with the mother in order to alleviate concerns and to help modify and medications(http://www.mamashealth.com...). The chances of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome are very mild and extremely manageable with seldom need for hospitalization. If necessary, pain medication is prescribed appropriately. A capable IVF doctor doesn't allow for too much medication or FSH stimulation to be administered, which is why there is plentiful communication between the doctors, nurses and the patient(http://www.advancedfertility.com...).
Sometimes IVF can fail due to problems with the uterus or the embryos themselves. There are many procedures at hand that can prevent the wasting of money being spent if someone is not able to have a child. Embryos that aren"t competent enough for implantation will fail. This can be prevented by doing a PGS(preimplantation genetic screening) where chromosomal analyses are completed in order to see if pregnancy will occur(http://www.advancedfertility.com...).
http://www.advancedfertility.com...),which prevents a variety of mental and physical diseases and disabilities. Primarily, Downs Syndrome is preventable as we are able to verify that the correct amount of chromosomes are present in the embryo. This tool is helpful for screening the embryos and maintaining the implantation of solely competent embryos. Parents whose genetic history are able to be tested with PGS and anuepoloidy tests to prevent the abnormalities in a person(http://genesisgenetics.org...).
The embryos do not have to destroyed, and could potentially benefit many more people than just infertile couples or same-sex partners. Embryos have the capability of providing stem cells for people who need them(http://www.eurostemcell.org...). The benefits that could be are the most rewarding. Stem cell research and treatment could solve many health issues of numerous varieties. Stem cells are harvestable from each embryo, but since it is not being funded it is difficult to bring the process to fruition.
Spare embryos could provide much more than many realize, whether it be advances in medical technology and treatments or the simple joy of parenthood to an otherwise infertile couple.
IVF is also a very safe procedure. Doctors and nurses do several evaluations to ensure the healthiness of both the mother and the child. Medications are well monitored and respectable IVF doctors have consistent correspondence with their patients (http://www.mamashealth.com...) so that they know the proper medications and can remain aware of the patient"s health and comfortability during the hormonal treatments that last 10 days before the harvest of eggs. The safety of the screenings also benefits the child, because with PGS analyzations, physical and mental diseases are preventable. IVF is not necessarily abnormal. A woman receives stimulation with FSH treatment for ten days, the eggs are harvested, mixed with sperm and then after a couple of days four eggs are placed inside the uterus or fallopian tube. After two weeks the couple will know if it was successful or not. If it is successful, then although the couple may visit the doctor gradually, the pregnancy is normally carried out as with in vivo fertilization.
"It is important to note that the rate of BIRTH DEFECTS in humans in the general population is about 3% of all births for major malformations and 6% if minor defects are included. Fortunately, 20-plus years following Louise Brown"s birth, we now have ample data that children conceived through IVF have no increase in these rates of birth defects,"(http://www.healthline.com...) and this is key to the realization that there are no additional dangers to children involving the implementation of IVF, and it can only benefit them as they will be screened for hereditary diseases.
IVF is a safe method for pregnancy that has more safeguards against birth defects than does traditional pregnancy thanks to PGS and other methods of assured fertilization and growth.
