The classic question.

I guess the most practical way to do these is for the first round to be acceptance and then I can make my case.

I don't want this to be an argument about definitions of words, but here is what I mean by sound - and I must ask con to accept it: vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person's or animal's ear.

If you have questions just leave a comment and I'll be happy to answer it.

Well Obviously there would be noise,we aren't the only mammals to perceive noise.the noise is made either way whichever way it occurs.

I agree with con, obviously. I'm not really sure what to do now - I had my own reasons for the position, but it seems a little unnecessary now.

Uh... vote pro?

I think I reversed would and it so it would be pro for the wooden tree.

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I imagine so. (This is the last round though, so we're almost there.)

Dnt think too much about it. Its purely a theoretical debate. It can never be proved or disproved and has no bearing on our lives in any way that I'm aware of. Left and right are human concepts and have as much in common with the universe as up and down.

I read the sun rises in the west. I kind of get, it stumps me a bit. I'll definitely think long and hard on it to fully understand.

Lol good luck trying to explain it to anyone. So far only 2 people can even grasp the concept. If you have time review The sun rises in the west. I think you'll get it too.

Hmmm. So a sound recording device is considered sentient? Lol. Just messing with you Hkg. But I suggest you modify your statement to anything which is receptive to sound waves/vibrations.

I started a new debate on this topic if anyone is interested

If there's no sentient beings in the area to perceive the sound waves, then the sound would not exist. There for, if a tree falls in the forest and there is no sentient beings around, it would not make a sound.

I would personally agree that sound requires a perceptive organ. But then some dictionaries define sound as both the vibrations themselves and the interpretation of them.

Does it make a noise? Is the cat both alive or dead simply because we are not observing it? Is this a word problem or a philosophical quandary?
