Tay-Sachs disease is a rare inherited disorder that progressively destroys nerve cells (neurons) in the brain and spinal cord. http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov...
This disease is fatal and will kill the affected in his first 5 years in his life. There is no cure.
Prenatal testing for Tay-Sachs can be performed around the 11th week of pregnancy using chorionic villi sampling (CVS).
Tay-Sachs cause deafness, blindness seizure, and eventual death of the affected in his first 5 years of life.
It is not mandated by anyone that parent whose fetus has Tay-Sach abort their fetus.
The reasons that parents who have fetus with Tay-Sachs disease should be mandated to abort the baby are following.
Bearing a baby with Tay-Sachs disease is as same as a creature that will suffer all of its life until dying in less than 5 years. There is no cure for Tay-Sachs, and the baby will only suffer when he or she is born. It is better to stop the pain in future for the baby by aborting the fetus.

The Tay-Sachs disease is a horrible one. But it doesn't mean humans have the right to murder babies just becuase they have the disease. Here are my reasons in a nutshell as to why they should not be aborted...

1. There is no cure now. But in the next few years maybe a cure might develop. Scientists are making cutting edge discoveries every year. Wouldn't you feel guilty murdering a baby and then finding out that the baby could have been cured?

2. Mothers have a risk of dying due to the abortion. It is rare, just like the Tay-Sachs disease. But it still happens. Why risk the mother's life? See link for details: https://www.google.com...

3. They may suffer pain but keep in mind that religious people believe that their suffering will end with death and that they will receive everlasting life in the afterlife which will make the five or less years of suffering look like nothing.

It is a matter that is based on your own beliefs. I believe that religion comes mainly into play on this matter. Although abortion prevents suffering, it should still be up to the parents because ending a suffering innocent child by death is entirely their call, not the laws.

obliviousmassacre,

Just wanted to point out that abortion kills a person 100% of the time (the baby) and also has a chance of killing the mother. Childbearing does not have the same risks for killing both people.

It doesnt even matter if abortion is safer. The only thing that matters is wether or not the fetus is a human life. If it is a human life then abortion is immoral. If it isn't a human life then it's amoral.

There **is** definitive evidence that abortion is safer than childbirth. The fact that there are WAY more side-effects to pregnancy and childbirth than there are abortion is just one point that backs this theory up. And, actually, abortion *can* be natural. Women have been aborting since at least 1550 BCE with natural herbs and will continue to abort forever, whether it is legal or not, because we feel we should get a say on whether we reproduce or not. And did you know that the term miscarriage was originally, "spontaneous abortion"? That implies that abortion is very much natural.

Pregnancy completely alters the body, inside and out. With alterations of the body come side-effects and complications that could lead to the death of the woman. Logically and scientifically, the only conclusion we can make is that the termination of a pregnancy is safer than continuing a pregnancy because it stops the tolls that pregnancy takes on the body.

Your original source that backed up your claim that pregnancy is safer than abortion came from LifeNews.com, a biased pro-life site, so excuse me if I don't take it seriously. Your second source even says that deaths reported to be caused by abortion are less than those reported to be caused by childbirth, but then goes on to say that we can't accept this because "more than likely" there are deaths caused by abortion that go unreported. This is a cop-out at best.

There is absolutely no definitive evidence that abortion is more dangerous than childbirth. In fact, it is the exact opposite: there is only definitive evidence that childbirth is more dangerous than abortion.

Yeah basically you just want o stop scientific development. Medicine for Tay-Sach's is never going to develop if the need is eradicated. Plus, this law would cause more emotional trauma than necessary. Plus this debate infringes on more than enough freedoms to be laughed out of consideration by anyone in a position to do anything.

All we really know for sure is that there is a risk of dying due to having an abortion. After-all, childbirth is natural and abortion is not. Just thought I would add this to make the point somewhat stronger.

Just wanted to say something in response to Con's #2 reason, "Mothers have a risk of dying due to abortion." Actually, abortion is 14 times safer than childbirth, so the mother's life would be in more danger when continuing the pregnancy than terminating it.
