If the country stayed on the path it's on, there is a good chance for a coup.

In my mind, the problem with the country today is that few people really care about what is going on. But if any major rights were taken away or an attack/natural/financial disaster happened, they would care. All they would need is a leader It's kind like the power here up north. People take the electricity for granted. But when the ice storm hits and we have no more power, we start to care a lot.

I have debated in the past that Revolution is always possible. I gather that your argument is that this will only happen if the country stays on the path it is on. I am curious to know what path you mean. Do you mean the Bush Administration? Or just our system of government? Let me guess, you're a Ron Paul supporter.

--The path of the government is not at issue in revolution, despite what you may think. The people can be dissatisfied with any government; any path.

--So you're saying that many people take our Western lifestyle, etc. for granted? Well, you're darn right. I don't think that is pertinent to the topic, however.

Well I actually do think that this might come into play.

But let me clarify. Will an attempted revolution(does not mean successful) happen because of present and future leaders incompetence?

The reason people's indifference will help a revolution is this. People hate chaos. So when things get chaotic, they look for something to blame.

Look at oil for an example. In the 90's people didn't care because it was cheap and plentiful. They drove their SUV's and did not worry. Now prices are up and who's fault is it? The Governments.

If freedoms are restricted or the government makes a very poor decision on another platform people will react, even if they didn't care the day before. All it takes is one person to be able to organize all these people who are discontent with the situation.

MM, why do we blame the government for high oil prices? Because we think they've let us down. But that implies that we had faith in them in the first place. Despite all its flaws, our government is the best in the world. I don't buy into the Libertarian-anarchist "the Government should be small enough to fit around my pinkie finger" malarchy.

The good thing about America is that we still think we can change the government from the inside, and it's generally true. I'm pessimistic about the government sometimes, but I think you've got to take the good with the bad with government, and I think we've had fairly good luck with ours. You'll never hear about it, though, because it's harder to recognize.

Let me get this straight: Are you an anarchist? Do you WANT a revolution? Frankly, I think there's next to no chance that there will be a coup or revolution because of the "path" we're on. Revolution is triggered by outside stimuli, in general.

But I'm still confused. What exactly are you arguing?

My argument is that i believe that in the future, barring a change, the US will have some internal struggle.

No i don't want this to happen nor do i support it.

(by the way Ron Paul is insane.)

Yes we have a great governmental system. But the people in it can manipulate it anyway they choose.

When people rights challenged, the people speak out. Our rights are starting to be challenged. So if this continues I can only imagine that SOMEONE, someone, regardless of if regular people or crazies, will try to revolt.

You say your argument is that "Barring a change, the US will have some internal struggle." Well, it seems like you've widened your scope a little bit. "Internal struggle" does not mean a coup. In fact, we have an internal struggle every four years.

Our system has always been fractious. Nothing is going to change that. Our "path" as you call it will lead us nowhere that it hasn't led us before. There will be, in all likelihood, a Democratic Administration for four or eight years, but people will get sick of the corruption and then we'll have another Republican landslide. Sound familiar? That's because it's happened since America's inception. There is nothing to suggest that it won't continue to go on, even if we stay on the same "path."

Our governmental system is great, but its members can easily manipulate it to do whatever they want? Yeah. Right. Sorry, but this sounds very much like a conspiracy theory. You've been watching too many movies like "Shooter." That kind of conspiracy could never happen in the U.S. And anyway, if that was true this sure wouldn't be a great governmental system.

Frankly, our rights are not being challenged more now than they ever were.

Well, at least we agree on something. Ron Paul is a nut.

In conclusion: I'm still wondering what you're talking about. I get the impression that you don't know how to express yourself, or you can't articulate your arguments, or you didn't have any in the first place. I've yet to see a good, solid argument. Therefore, I've had to guess your arguments, and that doesn't make for a good debate. Well, good luck!

Haha, "the country".
Please just say America, I mean people get what you mean but I like to think this is a global website not just American. It just sounded humorous to me.

reminds me of this...

The United Nations conducted a worldwide survey with one single question:

"Would you please give your opinion about solutions to the
food shortage in the rest of the world?"

The survey was a huge failure:

In Latin America, they didn't know what please meant ...
In China, they didn't know what opinion meant ...
In the Middle East, they didn't know what solution meant ...
In Europe, they didn't know what shortage meant ...
In Africa, they didn't know what food meant ...
In the United States, they didn't know what the rest of the world meant ...

I know it's a generalization and no offense to anyone, but yeah... felt like sharing that.

Put perfectly--the worst though is that it applies for both sides. In the end there were at least some warrants behind the claims of the con though.....

"I have debated in the past that Revolution is always possible."

Eek. Really? Even in a country where 3/4 of a trillion dollars is spent on the military every year? You still think we can rally together and stand in bold defiance of a nuclear missile? Power used to be based on numbers and magnitude, the nuclear age changed all that. =/
