Firstly, it greatly depends on the media outlet whether or not. Some newspapers and media organisations greatly support mass immigration whilst others do not. For example, in the UK, the Daily Mail is known for their anti-immigration views.

In terms of affecting lives, yes immigration affects lives. Higher levels of immigration generally means wages are going to be driven down, as large corporations will take advantages of the cheap labour. So, effectively the standard of living drops.
