This debate is referring to the characters in Disney's High School Musical and their solos.

Troy's solos- Get'cha Head in the Game, Bet On It, and Scream.
Gabriella's solos- When There Was Me and You, Gotta Go My Own Way, and Walk Away.

I will be arguing that Troy's solos are, on average, better than Gabriella's. Con will be arguing that Gabriella's are, on average, better than Troy's

First round for acceptance only.

To keep this simple I will show Troy's from HSM is better than Gabriella's, Troy's from HSM2 is better than Gabriella's, and Troy's from HSM3 is better than Gabriella's.

HSM1- Get'cha Head in the Game vs. When There Was Me and You

Get'cha Head in the Game is a fun dance song, that uses common sounds heard in a gym to make music while still showing Troy's difficulties in focusing and where his priorities were. When There Was Me and You, on the other hand, is just Gabriella complaining about how her boyfriend was tricked into being kind f rude to her, while being all around boring and not enjoyable.

HSM2- Bet on It vs. Gotta Go My Own Way

Now, we all know that the greatest song in history is Let it Go from Disney's Frozen. Watch the video I posted, and you'll see why Bet on It is the second greatest song in history, and Gotta Go My Own Way isn't even close.

HSM3- Scream vs. Walk Away

Now, the point of most Gabriella solos is to take a sad, emotional moment and enhance it with a sad, emotional song, helping the viewers feel more upset and make the situation feel like it had an emotional impact on the viewers. That did not happen with Walk Away. It was an incredibly sad scene, but the upbeat song made it seem as though Gabriella could just brush it off, and it made the viewer not care as much either. Scream, on the other hand, did just that, and was a better Gabriella solo than the actual one.

HSM1 - Get'cha Head in the Game vs. When There Was Me and You
While Get"cha Head in the Game is a fun dance song, Gabriella"s solo has more depth and raw emotion than Troy shows in his solo. Gabriella goes on to illustrate her insecurities as well as the disappointment and explanation of how hurt she is. The lyrics show how isolated and vulnerable she feels. When you trust someone, you allow that other person to have access to your insecurities and to violate that trust is extremely damaging. Troy violated Gabriella"s trust for such a petty reason. Gabriella"s song is more emotional than singing about not knowing what to do. Gabriella and Troy weren't even dating at this time; they were two kids who had chemistry trying to figure out their place in high school. Don't write off Gabriella as some b**chy teenage girl who"s crush brushed her off. That"s not who she is. She"s the new wildcat so she feels awkward, anxious, and troubled. She puts her faith in this guy she met over break to guide her, only to have him turn on her.

HSM2- Bet on It vs. Gotta Go My Own Way
Let it Go from Disney"s Frozen is an exceptional song about a girl who is tired of trying to fit into the social parameters set by others. That is exactly what Gabriella is singing about. She is tired of Troy pushing her around, not being there for her, and letting her down. She is standing up for herself and is "doing what's best for her." She is not letting herself be defined by someone who keeps ignoring her. Troy"s song is basically admitting he screwed up, which is great to admit because he"s been screwing up the entire time, while Gabriella"s song emits empowerment and sometimes having to be strong and doing what"s best your yourself.

HSM3- Scream vs. Walk Away
Now, the point of most Gabriella solos is to take a sad, emotional moment and enhance it with an emotional song, helping the viewers feel more upset and make the situation feel like it had an emotional impact on the viewers. That is true, but it"s the same with Troy"s solos. Walk Away was an incredibly sad scene, but the upbeat song made it seem as though Gabriella could just brush it off, it made the viewer not care as much either because if the viewers felt she could just walk away from everything without feeling than so could we. Scream, on the other hand, did nothing but show Troy"s tantrum.

"Gabriella goes on to illustrate her insecurities as well as the disappointment and explanation of how hurt she is"

She also shows her inability to properly analyze a situation. She should have realized Troy's friends would pressure him into saying that, as she knew about their disapproval of his other choices.

"you allow that other person to have access to your insecurities and to violate that trust is extremely damaging"

Again, this wouldn't have been so emotionally crippling to her if she realized that
a. They'd only been dating for what, one month?
b. As I said, Troy's friends would have pressured him into saying what he did no matter what.

"Gabriella"s song is more emotional than singing about not knowing what to do"

It does seem that way due to how much she overreacts, but her one month old boyfriend was pressured by his douche bag friends to say she wasn't that important, while Troy sang about a decision that had the potential to really harm both his social and college life.

"She puts her faith in this guy she met over break to guide her, only to have him turn on her."

Did you forget the scene after she met Taylor? Taylor did way more guiding than Troy did, so this point isn't very relevant.

"She is tired of Troy pushing her around"

What? Troy most certainly NEVER pushed her around, would you like to back up that point?

"not being there for her, and letting her down"

Troy had to look to his future, he needed the job to pay for college if he didn't get a scholarship. I'm sure Gabriella could understand his hanging around the coaches from several colleges, as they were about to enter the senior year.

"She is not letting herself be defined by someone who keeps ignoring her"

No one was trying to define her by her boyfriend, again, please provide evidence to back up this claim.

"Troy's song is basically admitting he screwed up, which is great to admit because he"s been screwing up the entire time"

Adding to your analyzation of the song, it was also about reassuring himself he could be a reliable person when it mattered most, such as prioritizing getting into a good college and having a better future over his 5 month girlfriend.

"That is true, but it"s the same with Troy's solos"

I disagree. Troy's solos are never slow, and almost never sad. His solos arre t illustrate him going through a tough point in the movie, and illustrating it through a fun yet serious song.

"Scream, on the other hand, did nothing but show Troy"s tantrum."

Scream showed his frustration with life, and the empty school scene showed how he wanted to not let anyone know, but instead keep it all to himself.
