Try to out-debate me when i'm con
I thank my opponent and I wonder if it will be a exceptional debate. Harms: (when I say Lobbyists' I'm referring to Organized political lobbying) 1Lobbyist are a way to make your voices heard, but isn't that taking away your voice? 2 lobbyist with a large amount of money can support campaigns causing people to vote for the campaign that the lobbyist supports. 3 lobbying is the legal form of bribery Arguments: Lobbying is quite horrendous they influence decisions made by the government they attempt to influence legislators and officials. lobbying is constantly viewed with suspicion by many it brings to question what lobbying actually is I will define it as the deliberate attempt to influence political decisions through various forms of advocacy directed at policymakers on behalf of another person ,organization or group. lobbying not only takes away our first amendment right by saying what's on are minds for us an environmentalist doesn't want an economist to say what should be done for saving tree's. Lobbyists are not only necessary for the government they are what makes it evil the corruption, the legal bribery, the fairness hold on what does fairness have to do with lobbying a lot fairness is tied with ethics . paying a policy maker to vote in a favorable way, a lobbyist giving gifts to officials and calling it "friends gift". fairness arises when lobbyists have easier access to lawmakers than others, and public officials who become lobbyists to influence their colleagues or influence people to support his/her colleagues. It is incumbent upon public officials to avoid influence that might arise out of their friendships. lobbyists have access codes to offices, use lawmakers' exercise facilities, or otherwise have easier entre to the corridors of power. lobbyist do not have to show the sources of influence that he/she used to influence that or this official. they don't have to say who they met with or what they discussed because they have a lawyer present to their meeting and call it attorney client privilege. lobbyist represent a particular side of an issue they are either the paid bad guy or paid good guy so they get paid no matter what they do. lobbyists may do anything on behalf of their clients as long as it is not OUTRIGHT immoral or illegal. since their have been concerns of corruption lobbyists now require a formal registration who come in contact with government representatives since 1995. the supreme court made a congressional resolution authorizing a committee to investigate "all lobbying activities intended to influence, encourage, promote, or retard legislation," the Supreme Court narrowly construed "lobbying activities" to mean only "direct" lobbying (which the Court described as "representations made directly to the Congress, its members, or its committees"), so there is no loose interpretation of lobbying. now lobbying as in just talking to people and trying to convince them should never be illegal when defined broadly but when you do anything to get your whatever passed in the interests of the country should be. now lobbyists aren't all that bad everyone in the government uses lobbyists for this or that they just talk that's all they do that's good nothing else after that it's just downhill. http://agonist.org... http://www.huffingtonpost.com... http://tribes.tribe.net... http://www.campaignfreedom.org... http://www.boingboing.net... again thank you debater for this resolution and am hoping you make an exceptional rebuttal. |
