Basketball is considered an American sport. All evidence in the 21st century builds roads towards that "fact" if it makes sense. In the NBA, there are 29 U.S teams and (just 20 years ago) 1 Canadian team. Everything apparently of Basketball is american, while us Canadians are just stuck playing hockey and lacrosse. Well fellow Americans, that is wrong! The sport many of us love was invented by Canadian inventor (CANADIAN) James A. Naismith. Basketball was just stolen away from you americans, and it rightfully belongs to Canada with hockey and Lacrosse.
Basketball is American. Yes you are certainly correct it was made by a Canadian. But have you checked WHERE and WHEN he created it? In Springfield, Massachusetts. Just like saying who "discovered" America (with Christopher Columbus), Spain or Italy? Spain did. Essentially Columbus is an Italian but it is Spanish crown that gave him his support to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The credit goes to Spain, not Italy. Dr. James Naismith is a Canadian who made basketball, but it is America that gave birth to it. This isn't much of a debate at all since 99% of teams are in US.
