I believe Congress has gone too far with some things they're doing with their power. Instead of trying to compromise and actually work together they are fighting for control of politics, not help the American people, which should be their main focus and help the country. I'll respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

"Instead of trying to compromise and actually work together they are fighting for control of politics"

Congresses job IS to fight for control of politics though! Republicans dont get elected to help the country, they get elected to f*ck up the plans that the Democrats have, and Democrats get elected to make sure the Republicans cant carry out their agenda. The fact that the two are fighting each other constantly like they promised their voters they would technically means that they are doing their job.

Only problem is that its not the job they should be doing :P

I have to disagree with that. Congress' job is to fight for the rights of the American people and the country to become stronger, smarter and more aware of what is going on in the world. Both parties are at fault because instead of compromise, they play the blame game and throw fits when they don't get their way. You can't always get your way, so instead of having someone have the upper hand, compromise should be reached so all sides are in agreement and are content with said agreement. Congress' job is to represent the American people, not have a stick up their rear end and turn their back on their country and its people. Congress should focus on fixing their own issues and the issues at home before they think they should tend to other countries business.

Yes, they are fighting for the rights of the American people and the country against the opposing party. Republicans fight for second amendment rights against the Democrats while the Democrats are fighting for seniors to not fall into poverty or have their social security checks garnished by the Republicans.

"Both parties are at fault because instead of compromise, they play the blame game and throw fits when they don't get their way. "

Compromising means youre giving up and not doing what you were elected to do! By fighting each other bitterly, Congress is actually doing its job more fiercely then ever.

"You can't always get your way, so instead of having someone have the upper hand, compromise should be reached so all sides are in agreement and are content with said agreement."

A wise man once said: 'If at first you dont succeed, try try again', which in Congressional talk translates to 'If at first you dont succeed, filibuster their a** on everything they do so that we can push our agenda to the front of the line and then blame them for when nothing gets done'....

my point is: persistence is a virtue, and that is exactly what both parties in Congress are doing right now, they are simply being persistant in trying to get what they were elected to get.

"Congress' job is to represent the American people, not have a stick up their rear end and turn their back on their country and its people"

Theyre not turning their back on the country, they are only turning their back on HALF of the country, the half that didnt elect them.

Compromise isn't really giving up something, in actuality compromise is one of the best tools Congress has right now. Compromise helps both parties obtain what they want through agreements, instead of fighting over who does what, nowadays it just seems like Congress fights over who sneezes. Out government was one of the best governments, no one is perfect but our government used to actually work together. The two parties don't seem to understand that they are hurting the American people by not figuring out how to work together, instead of being political parties first, they should think about being human beings first, they're not really affected by what's going on, meanwhile there are families that are living from paycheck to paycheck, and some are worried if they'll even see another paycheck. They just need to figure out how to get along and work together for the greater good. To me, if you turn your back on half the country, then you've forgotten the oath that you took to help the American people and America. You have made good points and I have enjoyed debating you.

Compromise: Noun - An agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.

Compromise by definition means giving up something.

"nowadays it just seems like Congress fights over who sneezes"

Well thats because every time someone sneezes the Dems argue that more funding needs to be given to the CDC to fight diseases while Republicans argue that God needs to be inserted into schools because sickness is punishment for not having the Lord in schools! May the best side win

"our government used to actually work together."

There is not a single moment in history when both parties actually worked together....

Look, it would be nice and dandy if both sides of Congress worked together and held hands to make America better all the time, but the truth is that Congressmen are elected to try to grab power away from the other party and try to force their political views onto the rest of the country because thats what they were elected to do.

Basically, Congress's job IS to fight one another, and judging from how deadlocked Congress is right now, they are doing their job better then ever.

The Founders purposely designed a system so that things won't get done and so that the least amount of laws will get passed. They wanted gridlock. To the Founders, more laws = bad. Republicans want less laws and only want the Constitution. Democrats want more laws and want to progress away from the Constitution.

Reasons for voting decision: All the talk about how Democrat intentions being soo much better then those evil Republicans who keep getting in the way is rather amateurish. And the notion that Government should do "more" is questionable. Do we really want government to do more?? Haven't they done enough??
