America as a country has always helped other nations striving for their independence as long as it was for our own interests. However, t really has never worked out for us, when helping in WW1 after President Wilson issued his fourteen points at the treaty of Versailles; he issued the idea of a global peace keeping organization. The League of Nations in Europe was a complete failure; America never entered the League of Nation because if there were ever a problem in Europe all the countries would come straight to America because they were the strongest nation at the time. America has always thought we should get into every single global problem just because we have a reputation of helping other countries. In WW2, we joined because of the attack on Pearl Harbor that was a good reason for America to get into the war. However, we never have should have gotten in to the Vietnam War or the Korean War. America would like to think we are the constable of the world but it has always turned out bad for us. We have lost tons of money and American lives in pointless wars. America needs to learn to get out of all the affairs of the world and let people figure things out for themselves.

Isolationism is VERY dangerous.
You see, it leaves us very unprepared for any war that may lay upon us.

US was an isolationist in the '30's. When Pearl Harbor struck, we were unprepared for the war!!! MANY lives were lost!

You stated we need to stay aware of ourselves.
This is true, but false at the same time.

Leaving other countries dying from poverty and war is CRUEL and EXTREMELY selfish.

Senator John McCain quoted:
"We cannot repeat the lessons of the 1930's when the United States of America sttod by whilst bad things happened".
THIS statement is true.

Isolationism forces Protectionism, too. Protectionism is setting up large borders around each state, and limiting trade supplies.
Rationing hurts!!!!

It will destroy jobs my friend!

It just ISN'T like us!

I was away from my computer for a couple of days. But if not helping a country in poverty is cruel and extremely selfish then why didn"t anyone help us when we were in our great depression why isn"t anyone helping us now? America cannot be the only person to help all the countries that don"t have the resources or the means to fix THEIR own problems we are not reliable for countries outside of our borders. America should fix the problems on the home front, poverty is rampant in our streets and people go to bed hungry every night. So where is our government when we need them, where are they when our people are dying from causes easily fixed if just given the effort?

You stated that no countries helped us during our depression.
Want to know why?
That was the World War II era,
and MANY countries were affected by it,
so they had their OWN problems!
i.e depression, money, nazism, etc.
They COULDN'T help us, its not that they could but wouldn't.

First things first the great depression happened after world war one and before World War 2 so your entire argument is invalid. America hasn"t been around for that long and we help countries that have been around a lot longer then we have. We are not everybody"s "super hero". Whenever we helped someone it"s never turned out in our favor, Osama Bin Laden attacked our military bases in the Middle East and he attacked the World Trade Center. We spend money on other people over our own.

It wasn't during WWI. And the WORLD was NOT peaceful between WWI and WWII. The depression started. The genocides began. Hitler became dictator. Stalin became dictator. And millions became jobless. And you're calling it PEACEFUL?

Also not stated in my argument,America was not isolated in the 1930's we had territories in Guam, the Philippines, Samoa and the Caribbean. Also we were prepared for war, when we were attacked at pearl harbor was because it was a sneak attack, we were in the midst of signing a peace treaty with Japan and we didn't have any way to tell whether or not the planes were friendly. America was prepared for war because they feared we would be sucked into World War 2. Maybe next time you should read up on your history before you make accusation.
