I believe Link is dead in Majora's Mask because first of all, Link falls down into a sort of chasm. And Legend of Zelda has always taken fall damage seriously.

Dead: no longer alive: having passed from the living state to being no longer alive

In order for Link to be classified as dead, he must no longer be living. Even after falling into a chasm, Link exhibits traits a living person would have (I.e. Walking, fighting, getting hurt.) A dead being could not perform those actions.

Also, Link "dies" in most of his games but he never remains "dead". For example, in The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess, if Link sinks into lava, he will die then merely reappear perfectly fine. So he is essentially immune to death.

Unfortunately, he did.
However, in doing he so he made the voter's job easier.

I agree with Bannanawamajama5 about the fall damage, and also, if Link was dead, it would totally erase the fact that the Hero's Shade is Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (which was confirmed http://nintendo.wikia.com...). Link died after Majora's Mask, after he grew up and learned more sword techniques and had children (Link from TP is a confirmed descendant of Link from OoT if you research the time line and bloodline). It's an interesting theory, but there is too much information to debunk it.

When he falls a long way in Ocarina of Time he takes damage but doesnt die. Like if you jump off the ledge inside Goron village he loses a few hearts but it won't kill him. And theres a damage cap on fall damage, so unless he was close to death to begin with the fall wouldn't kill him.
