The First Amendment of the United States clearly states that the government shall not abridge our free speech; but can average citizens do so? I don't believe so. Free Speech is Free Speech - for somebody to tell me "You can't say that" is unconstitutional; and, in my opinion, being unconstitutional is illegal. Therefore, Political Correctness is technically illegal.

Where do you stand on this topic?

Even though political correctness is a nice, theoretical idea of everyone getting along; It's hurting our country. People, especially the younger generation, have become more and more offended over the most minuscule things. They're literally "trying" to find something to be offended about in order to a) fuel their own self-righteousness and b) to prove to the entire world that we're not "stupid americans"

One example of political correctness gone awry is when government employees in Seattle are not allowed to use the word "citizen" and "brown bag" because they're potentially offensive. What potential is there to offend anyone? Seriously...

Another example is when Pittsburgh public buses had to get rid of a slogan, which was on their buses, called 'Ziggin n Zaggin' because the corrupt version of the "N" word can be read backwards. They had to take it down due to confirmation bias from people and rabid efforts to not offend anybody. I wouldn't have even figured that one out because it's not worth paying attention to.

The first amendment says that government should not infringe freedom of speech yet we're having government agencies dictating what people should say. Of course, people should be accountable for their actions if they use offensive language but to have someone tell us not to say "bad words" because peoples feelings will get hurt, then it's officially getting out of hand.

This is what political correctness has done; infringing out rights, having narcissistic 'rights' activist hounding people over silly things and people feeling self-righteous over accomplishments you can't even call accomplishments because it's hurting everyone.

Also, your title is if political correctness is hurting or helping America, but the debate topic is if it is or is not legal. Two completely different things there.

Love this topic! I agree that political correctness is hurting society in general. However, someone "telling" you that you can't say something would be within their right under the exact same constitution. If they tried to force you not to say something that would be a different matter.
