Religion is a disease to our world. Large organised religions are havens for terrorists, paedophiles and murderers. Christianity, Islam and Judaism are hateful, chauvinistic institutions which are violent, racist, sexist, capricious, misogynistic and overly evil. i admit that a majority of religious people are good, moderate and nice people, but the religions and extremists are violent.

Religion gives humans hope. If hope is violent, then let everyone be damned. Organized religions are innumerable, about 4200. But, most of them died off through conquest and time. Now, there are five major religions in the world. Those religions are not violent, with the exception of extremists terrorists. Those people are not part of whatever religion they say they are in; it may sound contradictory. But, They are animals, bestial and brutal. Religion is not violent, but the people are.

You can not say that religion is violent because those who may be in it, yet are not in it, are. Religion is not living, it is an expression of human beliefs. Therefore, it can not be violent.

Terrorists do not gather where large organised religions are because religion exists in almost everywhere those terrorists, and animals can touch. They are just where the religions are. Religions exist with just a thought. They exist before all the other evils that you group with that religion, it is not evil and violent.

Don't place the blame in the place, the beliefs. But, place the blame on you and everyone else for being humans and blaming religions for being violent.

You are right. Humans are violent. we created religion so human violence and animalism is going to be built into the religion. But, the bible is probably the most violent book ever written. So many people die in that book, its crazy. In the bible, it encourages killing, raping and pillaging of non-believers. Sure, Killing is against the ten commandments, but then again, the god of the bible tells the Israelites to conquer new areas. This is obviously because the Israelites created God and the bible in order to justify their conquest. The same goes for Islam, and the spread of Islam which is encouraged by Allah, through Muhammed. Their are other causes for violence, sure but religious warfare and Islamic extremism are caused by religion. i also agree that religion gives people hope. But i can't understand why someone would get hope by a being that endorses slavery, genocide, infanticide, rape and incest. Also, if you don't follow these 10 rules, you burn for eternity. Explain how that encourages hope.

Before religion, Humans were a wild mob of a rural group of animalistic people. Humans created religion to give them hope, to answer questions that they don't know. God may or may not be real, But there is an incentive in religion and that is not bad or violent in any way whatsoever.

The reference:
Luke 19:27:
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

That is clearly from someone's POV, They are apostles; Humans and bias in their own way.

The religion do not advocate violent, people do.

Religious warfares and Islamic extremism are not caused by religion, they are caused by people. By the way, extremism can exist anywhere. There are Patriotism, Extremism in watching football. It's an addiction caused by humans for other humans.

Religion is the ancestral foundation to orderly civilization. Of course, human instincts are bad. But, religion is not. History says so; during the crusades people fought people for glory, fame and wealth.

Moreover, there are a lot of Catholics in prison. They help to convert prison inmates to be better people.
Religion makes people better.

"I mentioned that the proportion of Roman Catholics in penal institutions is at least twice their representation in the population at large. Though I was under the impression that this was a well-known fact, it caused some derisive laughter. But on checking the statistics, I find that again I erred on the side of caution: RCs comprise 12 to 13 percent of the population of England and Wales, but 25 to 35 percent of the inmates of borstals, detention centres, prisons and hostels for drug addicts, alcoholics, and the like [...] and similar ratios pertain in all Western countries." Even if you quit, I will not.

According to this article, it says that 84% of the world has a religion, while the others, I'm implying that they are atheist (for arguments purpose). Every human has their eccentricity and their uniqueness, but don't forget about the evils that exist in everyone. Humans created religions to help us become better, not turn the world into a living hell through violence. So, my original contention of "Humans causing violence" is true and because my opponent (con) did not reply, I must say that my argument is true.

Religions are not necessarily violent, however a lot of the members of religions, seem to think they can do what they like, in the name of their imaginary god/s!. The world WOULD be a much better place without religions from this point in time onward!!.

@missmedic | I disagree. An idea can have violent implications. Militarism, extreme nationalism, and religion all contain ideas that could easily be considered violent. Violent is an adjective. You are referring to "violence", which is a noun.

Violent is an action of people, not ideas. Religion is a bad idea, but it is not violent. You are right in saying "extremists are violent", however "moderate and nice people" are the ones that empower the extremists by demanding respect and tolerance for religion, but the god of the bible and the god of the Quran are not moderates.
