Con

Is Romeo and Juliet still relevant today or outdated?

I believe it is out dated, but what about you?
Aithlin

Pro

I accept this debate, and I shall be arguing that Romeo and Juliet is still relevant today.

Before I hand this debate back over to Con so that he could begin his opening arguments, I shall clarify certain aspects within this debate. Hopefully, none of what I am going to write below is too controversial, but if Con is in dispute with what I write, then he/she should appropriately mention it in his/her next round.

Definitions

Romeo and Juliet: a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. (1)

Relevant: closely connected or appropriate to the matter in hand. (2)

Today: this present day; modern society

Outdated: Con mentions in the comments what he means by "outdated". According to Con, whether something is to be considered to be outdated refers to whether "it is too old fashioned to be learning about?"

Burden of Proof

The BoP of this debate is shared, meaning that both Con and I must present positive cases in favour of their position.

Conclusion

With that said, I look forward to an engaging debate!

Pro

Rather sadly, Con has forfeited and is yet to make an opening argument. Given that this is a 5 round debate, and that this is only the second round, I will wait for him to come back.

@schachdame

I agree, they had only known each other for 2 days! Seems stupid to die for someone you met 48 hours ago.

I just get headaches when someone tells me that Romeo and Juliet is about true love and romance.
But as literature it has its values.

Reasons for voting decision: No arguments or counter-arguments from Con means that Pro wins arguments. However, Pro didn't give any either, so I can't give argument points to Pro. Conduct goes to Pro, however, because of Con's round forfeits.

Reasons for voting decision: Conduct: FF; Sp/Gr: Given such a short contribution to a five-round debate one would expect at least consistent spelling of the word outdated. Arguments: Pro didn't give any, Con wasn't proffered that opportunity. Sources: Definitions!
