I do not think Taylor Swift is a country singer. Her music is pop with a couple of guitar solos. Country music is mostly about beer, trucks, and love, but all her songs are about her old boyfriends.

My position on the matter is this, Taylor Swift is both a country singer and a pop singer. There are songs of Swift that are definitely not country (Shake it Off http://youtu.be...), and there are songs that are country (Tim McGraw http://youtu.be...). And there are accounts of her singing country music covers on stage (Run http://youtu.be...) and with other country stars (Just to see you smile http://youtu.be...).

I kind of compare her to the LeAnn Rimes of pop music. Rimes both did Country (Blue http://youtu.be...) and Pop (Can’t fight the moonlight http://youtu.be...).

I don’t know of many country songs that are about beer and trucks. There are some country songs that make reference to them, but that’s not what they are about, and a majority of the ones I know don’t even make a reference. For example, ace in the hole by George strait makes no reference of beer or trucks. I’ll list songs that don’t at the bottom.

As to country music being about love, while I can point out some trivial ones that aren’t about love (If You're Gonna Play In Texas http://youtu.be...) but I’ll agree with you that a lot of country music that I know is about love… However it’s not just country, a lot of music in general is about love. Also to note, there are cheating songs in country... Like Travis Tritt (Here's A Quarter Call Someone Who Cares) or Hank Williams (Your Cheatin` Heart), Love is not a requirement in country music, so this isn't a reason why Taylor can't be country.

As to her singing about old boyfriends, I don’t know the point you’re trying to make. Just about every major country singer has sung about their old boyfriends\girlfriends (granted i'm not sure which ones are fictional). I can reference many off the top of my head, Miranda Lambert, band perry, sara evans, Shania twain, Reba, LeeAnn Womack, martina mcbride, Dixie chicks… is there a country musician alive that has never sang about their old companions?

List of country songs that don’t have “beer” or “trucks” in the lyrics. It easy to list more, a lot of country songs don't refenece these words in the lyrics (and have nothing to do with them).

Overall Taylor Swift is an amazing artist. From Tear Drops on My Guitar to Blank Space, Taylor has gained the support from a variety of people. Although Taylor Swift was a country singer, I think she evolved into a pop singer.

I happen to like Taylor Swift and her music. I don't think she's a full out "country singer" when comparing her to the typical "country folks" and lifestyle, but I do like her style and I disagree that all her songs are about her ex boyfriends.
