Do we live in a Democracy when Gerrymandering takes place?
In America today people are being ignored; the government does not listen to what the people have to say about issues that affect their lives. For example the communities in Long Island have issues with not having a fair share of voting power; new lines have split the minority communities in two different districts making it harder for minorities to speak for one voice. Half of the American people are not aware of what is going on during redistricts; they assume our votes count when all it is real doing is diluting our votes. Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. Gerrymandering exists because population is always changing; so redistricting has to be done. Gerrymandering is judged negatively because redistricting draws the lines unfairly to favor one party for power in congress. Gerrymandering favors politics than for people; Politics have a powerful voice than the people because redrawing the districts favors the both parties. Washington redistricting has young people feel disconnected, Immigrants feel like their voices aren"t being herd and they all share common interest so people say "it"s unrealistic". My idea for redistricting is for the people to have the voice and to get rid of gerrymandering so that it can be fairly divided for the both parties.

I agree it favors or the politicians than the people. It is having a bad effect on communities and the people do not even know about it

I truly agree with you, due to gerrymandering people are being ignored because people hear but do not pay attention. Instead of working together they only do what is best to them.

I agree with you, I too feel that gerrymandering favors politics over the people of the United States.
