Con

For as long as I can remember, I have heard the phrase that 'cleanliness is next to godliness.'

If 'cleanliness' means washing one's hands after using the toilet, and 'godliness' means being closer to God, I contend there is no correlation. I wash my hands every time, and am no closer to God.

What say you?
Deadlykris

Pro

I have accepted. I suppose this means I have to disprove cleanliness.

No, I defined cleanliness as one's washing one's hands after using the toilet.

My argument is that washing one's hands after using the toilet does not bring one closer to God.

Anyone I know who 'religiously' washes his/her hands after using the toilet does not bring them closer to God.

No where on that site does it say anything about washing hands after using the toilet being a thing that brings one closer to God.

Cleanliness makes the germs on your hands nonexistent. Therefore, the germs achieve godliness, because the most fundamental trait of a god is that it doesn't exist.

Cleanliness is practically synonymous with godlessness, which is effectively the same as godliness.

damn. you win.

Reasons for voting decision: Like others, I planned to award the victory to Con, since Pro provided no evidence that "The most fundamental trait of a god is that it doesn't exist." However, Con conceded, so points to Pro.

Reasons for voting decision: Con almost deserved the win, but then he conceded. There was so much wrong with Pro's case that it's difficult to know when to begin. I'll just say that the statement "the most fundamental trait of a god is that it doesn't exist" is logically incoherent, plus he is begging the question by assuming that God (or gods) does not (do not) exist. So I'll give some points to Pro, but his arguments were no more convincing than Con's (even though the debate was pretty ridiculous right from the start).
