I shall be debating that cloning is not "right," and Pro will argue that it is. First round acceptance.
Cloning- a general term for the research activity that creates a copy of some biological entity (a gene or organism or cell). Clone- A cell, group of cells, or organism that is descended from and genetically identical to a single common ancestor, such as a bacterial colony whose members arose from a single original cell. http://www.thefreedictionary... |

For this round, I am going to specifically debate why human cloning should be discouraged.
1. Emotional Problems If a mother were to clone her dead daughter, or son, there would be tons of emotional problems that that child has, having to live with being a replacement. How would you like to live with being the replacement of another? There is also all the pressure being put onto that child to be exactly like the lost one. But as we all know, not even clones can be exactly alike, they differ some, personality-wise. So that family will be filled with disappointment that the clone is not really their other child. http://www.globalchange... 2. It is against the Bible In Psalm 139:13-16: "For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skilfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them." In Isaiah 44:2, 21, 24: "Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, I have formed you, Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Myself and spreading out the earth all alone." Psalm 119:73: "Your hands made me and fashioned me." From these verses, you can see that life starts in the womb and God creates/forms life. Cloning violates the Bible and defies God. Cloning is us creating life vs. God. http://www.allaboutpopularissues... 3. Uncertain Results Once all humans become the same, who knows what could happen-the results could be endless. One thing that could happen is mass diseases. Some people's genes are prone to certain illnesses and diseases. If we all have the same genes, then we could all get prone to various diseases and become extinct. It may seem far-fetched, but the future can hold anything. http://library.thinkquest... How Cloning Happens: This video will show you how cloning takes place, hopefully clearing many questions about it. http://learn.genetics.utah... I would like to thank my opponent for accepting this debate. ScarletGhost4396 forfeited this round. |

Since my opponent has not given me anything to rebut, I will continue on with my arguments.
I'll take this round to argue why both human cloning and animal cloning is not right. 1. Dolly Dolly the sheep was the first cloned mammal, born in 1996. She was cloned successfully only after 276 failed attempts. That would mean 276 animals, 276 living things had to die, and for what? The good of science? Is it really "right" to try and clone five different animals, make five successful clones but kill over 1,000 living things, again for the "good of science?" Scientists have created many other animals, but making no progress, meaning they have killed many other living things unethically. And even though Dolly lived to be seven years old, she was always very sick and constantly on drugs. Most sheeps live twice as long as this. So, though they may have artificially been able to create life, it did not last long, and was filled with suffering on Dolly's part. Australia's first cloned sheep died at only two years old. So we should not clone humans, as it only inflicts pain and suffering on the clone, and will eventually die at an early age. ***I'd like to make it clear that a human has never been cloned.*** http://www.guardian.co... http://www.sciencemuseum.org... http://www.newscientist... All previous arguments extended, as my opponent is continually forfeiting.
As my opponent has provided no arguments whatsoever, vote Con. ScarletGhost4396 forfeited this round. |
