Dance is a sport. It's not in the Olympics but football isn't either? Dance is the hardest thing I've ever done. The reason all dancers say it's a sport is because we're the only ones that know how hard it is. If you think dance is easy, go to an advanced ballet class and try to cry. Or hold your leg up to your ear without hands for 30 seconds and then call it easy. Or do five pirouettes in a row and the catch your leg and do 10 leg spins directly after that. In dance, you have to do all of that while looking perfect. Makeup done, hair perfectly stable, and an uncomfortable costume. Dancers aren't flimsy little fake dolls like everyone say we are. We tough things out. I got a concussion during the middle of my dance at the last practice before the most important competition of my life and I finished the dance full out while almost passing out. Then I danced the next day even though I had a concussion. So don't say anything about dancers if you haven't the least bit of knowledge of what we go through.
Dance is an art, soccer is a sport. You should be able to see the difference.
Definition for Sport: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment"
Dance isn't an activity that entertains based on competition. It is for shows and artistic expression with the body. It being athletic isn't enough to make it a sport. Also there are forms of dancing that don't require physical exertion, its all on how you want to do it, that is not the case with recognized sports. Also, if you put dance into a competition you would never have a clear winner (like in all sports), you would first need judges and then you would have to accept that they can't judge objectively.
Even weight lifting is a sport because it takes two people competing to who can lift the most weight. Part of the thing you have to realize is that sports have winners, winners that can be objectively defined.
It has the anxiety of a basketball score being 55-56 at the last second of the game. Waiting to hear your score or waiting to hear if you were better then your opponent. Gymnastics is the hardest sport, in the Olympics and competes using judges. Soccer games, football games, and matches are the same as a dance competition. It's competitive. So what it's a different way of competing. It's still competing. The same form as gymnastics. Don't saw it's not competitive.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. -The dictionary definition. What part of that doesn't relate to dance?
