It would be disrespectful to the people who lost loved ones due to Islamic extremists for a Muslim community center to be placed near Ground Zero. Yes, not all Muslims are bad people, but there are Muslims who are very bad people.

Should be blame religion for man's actions and crimes? Should we blame ideology for man's hostility and for modern man love for bloodshed? Isnt Stalin to some degree responsible for the starvation of Ukrainians? Was this a product of Communism or one man's lack of empathy for others? Was it Hitler who decided to initiate the Holocaust or was it his religion/ ideology? As always even if a religion/ideology said only peace is the acceptable way of life, man would refuse to live in peace. This is why Buddhism a religion that places great emphasis on meditation has elements like Ashin Wirathu , a man calling for hate and murder in the name of peace.
The notion that Muslims who make up at least 1.6 billion residents of earth should be collectively punished for the actions of 20-50,000 people is ridiculous and rather barbaric, it serves as a tool of alienation and would definitely breed more conflict.
America prides itself on being a sanctuary for the oppressed and is religion blind, it is unbecoming for the nation to succumb to the low desires of hate mongers and people naturally inclined to hate people of different religions.
If Christians exclusively participated in 911 would we deny them the right to a community center? Of course not, in the same way we cant be the judge of others religions and allowing this site exemplifies America's finest values.
What benefit is there in denying a community center except spreading hate and promoting intolerance ?

Sorry for missing the last round.

America doesn't need to deny Muslims a mosque to spread hate, social media does that every day on it's own. There is no need to say anything about Christians, if we wanted to we could say "if" for the rest of our lives on the subject. However since it was brought up it's only fair to say that christians and muslims have been at war for thousands of years. It doesnt take much for one side to hate the other side as a whole regardless of how they both preach peace.

But what does your argument have to do with the building of a community center? You are essentially saying that Muslims and Christians have had a long conflict......so? your animosity towards muslims in general can not justify the fact that you want to deprive them of freedom of religion. it is tantamount to me saying Jews do not need a synagogue to spread hate, social media does everyday, what does this have to do with the building of jewish community center?

It would have to be through a private company, taxpayer money should not be used, but other than that I am pro.
