Is it appropriate to build a Muslim community center near the World Trade Center site?
Debate Rounds (4)
First round is accept.
Arguing for Pro.
It would be disrespectful to the people who lost loved ones due to Islamic extremists for a Muslim community center to be placed near Ground Zero. Yes, not all Muslims are bad people, but there are Muslims who are very bad people.
The notion that Muslims who make up at least 1.6 billion residents of earth should be collectively punished for the actions of 20-50,000 people is ridiculous and rather barbaric, it serves as a tool of alienation and would definitely breed more conflict.
America prides itself on being a sanctuary for the oppressed and is religion blind, it is unbecoming for the nation to succumb to the low desires of hate mongers and people naturally inclined to hate people of different religions.
If Christians exclusively participated in 911 would we deny them the right to a community center? Of course not, in the same way we cant be the judge of others religions and allowing this site exemplifies America's finest values.
What benefit is there in denying a community center except spreading hate and promoting intolerance ?

Sorry for missing the last round.
America doesn't need to deny Muslims a mosque to spread hate, social media does that every day on it's own. There is no need to say anything about Christians, if we wanted to we could say "if" for the rest of our lives on the subject. However since it was brought up it's only fair to say that christians and muslims have been at war for thousands of years. It doesnt take much for one side to hate the other side as a whole regardless of how they both preach peace.
