Statistically, some groups are more likely to commit violence against others, and others are more likely to be victimized. For example, if you are a young, non-hispanic black between ages 10-24, according to the CDC you are 2.9 times more likely to be murdered over any other ethnic group in America. (http://www.cdc.gov...) Also according to the DoJ, 64.7% of all black crimes of violence are committed against other blacks. ([table 42]http://www.bjs.gov...) So, although I don't mean to give this question racial dimensions, one of the clearest examples of social disparity is the amount of black-on-black crime, as well as black-on-white crime ([In 2005, Blacks were 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa] http://www.colorofcrime.com...).

So, this begs the question: is it ever appropriate to racially profile when making safety precautions?
