Con

There is no evidence that space really exists. There is no reason to believe in astronomy.

1. Going back to greco-roman times, a philosopher with the name Sophocles once said, "Astronomy? Impossible to understand and madness to investigate." Certainly, he said this because space is nonexistent, merely a figment of our imagination.

2. All the people who have gone to space are somehow involved in the government. No one has actually gone to space, but it was a very effective method of propaganda in the 20th Century that inspired American patriotism.

3. ISIS believes in space.

4. the sun is just a flaming ball of radioactive waste hung in the sky by the government's pet cyclops, Ginger. This is how we are constantly being consumed by more economic debt. Ginger demands payment for holding that flaming ball.

5. Stars are just projections to keep the propaganda going.

6. If space were real, we would have encountered aliens by now.

Space is defined as above the nominal edge of the atmosphere at 100 km (62 mi) Earth altitude

Response to 1 - no evidence. No reliable sources say that Sophocles ever said this. A quick google search turns up only two disreputable sites that actually have this quote on them. Obviously misattributed.
Response to 2 - not true. This argument completely ignores the facts. SpaceShipOne was a private spaceship that went to space in 2004. Dennis Tito was an American civilian millionaire who went to the ISS in 2001. I can cite more examples.
Response to 3 - ISIS also believes in the earth. By the same argument, the earth also does not exist.
Response to 4 - This is a frivolous argument unsupported by evidence. I ask Con to provide evidence for this claim before I will debate it.
Response to 5 - Likewise, this is also a frivolous argument.
Response to 6 - Space may exist while aliens don't. Absence of aliens doesn't equal absence of space.

All of Con's arguments have been refuted. Vote Pro.

Point 5: There are MILLIONS of stars. These "projections" are impossible. Stars have been around since the Greek times. People have written or even drawn these stars. During those times, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to make projections because of the underdeveloped technology.

Also, with point 6, about how we would see aliens, perhaps there were lifeforms on other planets. Yet, it could be possible that the planets were not booming with life because of certain conditions or maybe life just died out after millions or even billions of years if they even preexisted. Anyway, who's to say that aliens are nearby. Maybe they are thousands of lightyears away because they were subjected to the same conditions as us. In fact, to their society, WE are the aliens. Although, our technology may not let us ever find life on other planets. There is no possibility that fast space travel such as "Lightspeed warping" in sci-fi movies is possible. No material object can go faster than the speed of light.
