The death penalty is an effective form of punishment.
This is because it deters anyone from committing crime, and proves that the law is being enforced.
Also if it isnt in place, loads of criminals would just overfill our prisons, so we would have to build more prisons, which would cost us money, which could have gone towards public services.
Therefore the death penalty is a cheaper but effective way to deal with crime.

I have to say I do disagree, there is a large amount of evidence to prove that the death penalty is not effective.
I quote the nccadp "most people on death row committed their crimes in the heat of passion, while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while suffering from mental illness. They represent a group that is highly unlikely to make rational decisions based on a fear of future consequences for their actions" http://nccadp.org...;

Nationally, murder rates are significantly lower in states that don"t use the death penalty than in those with a death penalty.
