It is considered monopoly as far as I'm concerned. So all you Con's out there, if you wanna debate otherwise feel free.

I accept. State your case, Pro. So far you've only made one assertion, please try to provide warrants and implications to achieve that assertion.

Monopoly: The exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service
or
A company or group having exclusive control over a commodity or service

You have implicitly undetaken the full burden of proof in this debate, so get to proving your Pro side!

Good luck :)

I believing that the Los Angles Lakers basketball team should be considered monopoly. I say this because they have the best player in the NBA (Kobe Bryant), best pass maker and 3- point shooter in the NBA (Steve Nash), Best re-bounder in NBA (Paul Gasol) and Dwight Howard, and finally, young aggressive player Ramon Sessions.

Despite the Heats, Thunders or even Celtics, they have alot of the best players in the NBA on there teams, but the whole Lakers lineup is filled with the best in the League.

(A) Unjustified Descriptions of Skill.

The fir point of contention with Pro's argument is that his descriptions and assessments of the various members of the La Lakers are unsupported. No one denies that Kobe Bryant isn't a great player and the same applies to the other members of the team. However, Pro has provided no empirical sources or logical reasoning to support any of these players being the "best" in their respective fields. Since Pro's argument rests primarily on the Lakers being an unnaturally great team with all all-star players, some actual reasoning in defense of such a proposition is warranted.

(B) Definition of Monopoly.

Now even if one were to grant Pro's unsupported argument for the superlative nature of the Lakers, his argument would still fail to uphold the resolution. This is owing to the fact that the Lakers being an exceptionally (or even the best) team does not mean that they are or ought to be considered a monopoly. The definition of monopoly as defined in R1 (and which Pro has of yet failed to find fault with) is that one has 'exclusive' control of some commodity or service. Clearly the Lakers don't have exclusive control over either basketballs, NBA teams, great basketball players, or entertaining sporting events.
