People often confuse the U.S.A as a democracy but really it is a representative republic. We do not vote on every issue. We elect representatives to make decisions for us. We are not directly involved in every political decision we elect others to do this for us.

Republic Definition
a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

Democracy Definition
a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state makes decisions

The example provided in the video is flawed, but ultimately the point is correct.

It's neither, the US is a plutocracy, but that's not an option so I can't accept. :(

Definitions are skewed in your favor. Democracy, or "rule by the many", is a pure form of government. A republic is a mixture of democracy and aristocracy ("rule by the best"). Citizens in a republic democratically elect who they think is the best is for the role for a limited time. Should they fail to deliver, upon democratic elections they are replaced.
