just want to see people opinions on this as it was raised in my sociology lesson

From the perspective of the rich, who would be able to abuse their financial power to their heart's content if there were less fiscal control, there will always be too much government.

From the perspective of the poor, there will always either be too little or too much of the wrong kind.

Right now in America government on most levels are way too big. And the bigger they get, the less freedoms we have.I am for all the freeloader stuff to stop. And as far as the police go, they are not needed so much where the folks can have guns without restriction. Only in gun free zones do you need a massive police force.

Constitutional government would be restricted to the court system that enforces contract and civil law.And an overwhelming military that NO ONE would even dare attack. All that other junk is there just to empower government and their cronies, the rich and the poor that live off them.

I never said I am for bigger government or want that, you are making assumptions. I am just saying when people automatically say government they think Federal, President, and maybe legislators and congress. But there is so much more involved such as your local government, state government, and the services they provide you probably do not even recognize. All of the bad things governments do over shadow many of the good aspects which people probably do not recognize until somethings happens.

CW...... If you have not been paying attention, the more government control, the poorer cities get.Detroit is a fine example.Detroit is what Obama and liberals want all of America to look like. That may not be their intention, but that make no difference, the outcome would be the same.

Obama may not intend to destroy America, but if that was his intent, to destroy America, what would he be doing differently?

Seems like peoples concept of government are minor compared to what it actually does. Government includes local, state, and federal which all accomplish different things.

@Libertatis, I am not sure you understand everything that the government does......if you live in a city and you have water, ensures homes are built safely, businesses are thriving and growing. These are all effects of your local government. Even at the federal level they subsidize many things for people so the costs are not so outrageous one example is mail (they operate at a loss because if were all private stamps would be $3.00 and it would be another $3 just to mail something).

Also, what does protect "our" rights even mean - like police, military defense...

Too much all around, the government should be very limited. Its only job should be to crack down on crimes and protect are rights, nothing else.

Too little where we actually need it and too much where we could do fine without...
