Recently, there has been a lot of talk in the news about Islam. You hear a variety of terms everyday; Islamic jihadists, Islamic fundamentalists, and so on. And often if you were to bring in an opinion like "Islam is not a peaceful religion" into a conversation, you would be met with fierce words, and probably called racist or an idiot or really, a lot of things. It seems as though we are held back, or constrained by political correctness.

The truth of the matter is Islam is not a peaceful religion, despite the constant propaganda we hear from the Muslim world.

"The only problem with Islamic fundamentalism is the fundamentals of Islam" - Sam Harris

2:191 And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight not with them at the Inviolable Place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of disbelievers.

2:193 And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah.

2:216 Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you. Allah knoweth, ye know not.

2:244 Fight in the way of Allah, and know that Allah is Hearer, Knower.

5:33 The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom.

True, Islam may not be the most peaceful religion in the world, but it's not like it's the only one. It seems to me that the passages you have listed before can be misinterpreted, and the real definition behind them is basically: " You mess with us we mess with you." The main reason why people are so against Islam is because of a majority of terrorism in the middle east. Essentially Islam is not 'violent' per say, just neutral until provoked to use violence as a defense.

I think I am going to refer back to the quote "The problem with Islamic Fundamentalism is the fundamentals of Islam"

As to your point about it not being the only one, I realize this. I just think that the amount of times that Islam is referred to as a religion of peace is absurd. Jainism is a religion of peace. Islam is not.

And who's to say what is a misinterpretation or not? The problem is that these passages I listed can be easily interpreted to be read as aggressive. For instance, look at how Osama Bin Laden interpreted the Quran. His interpretation is extremely plausible. The problem is that these ideals exist, that aggression is necessary, and that the fact that they are open to such wide interpretation is a problem.

For instance a violet aggressive Jihad could very easily be seen as the correct interpretation of what Jihad is. It's core values are violet, which is why I say it is not a peaceful religion like it is so often referred to.
